Magic Returning Early

Sorry if already posted -- I just read a Facebook post from a passenger on the Magic that they are arriving back in Galveston this evening. They have two sick passengers on board, and they hope to disembark them by 10-11:00. Regular disembarkation will be as scheduled tomorrow.

Sure enough, on the Magic camera you can see the faint lights of Galveston in the distance.

I hope the passengers are OK!

Wow...they must have been cruising at full steam for quite a while to make up this much time. The pax cannot be that bad off if they didn't have the USCG come meet them further offshore so it's probably safe to assume that whatever the problem is there are no immediate life threats.

Maybe they'll head back out to sea after offloading the sick/injured/ill?

I doubt it...they're not even in the channel yet, so it will be close to midnight by the time they get to the terminal. They would be docking 6 hours later even if they hadn't come in early.

I suspect you're right. It is doubtful that they could make enough money in the casino to offset the fuel needed to head back out.

So this is a bit different - it looks like the Magic docked at one of the cargo terminals and not the cruise terminal. According to her positioning information she is at the pier right next to UTMB. In a way it makes sense as I suspect they did not have lineman at the cruise terminal but likely have them at the cargo piers.

I read 2 different plausible explanations. One was that there were longshoremen already on duty at the cargo pier but not at Pier 23. The other was that the Magic needed to have something loaded aboard by crane at the cargo pier.

Hopefully, things turned out for everyone, and the 2 sick passengers get well soon, from whatever caused their illness. I didn't check out the web cam, so I don't know if there's fog today or not. But I was thinking, if the Magic did get in hours earlier than scheduled, perhaps trying to get to port, then wouldn't be an issue? and the passengers would be able to disembark on time...(this is not knowing when the fog starts building-in the evening/late night? wee hours of the morning?...I live in the desert, where we don't have fog)

Just off Magic...docked at cargo pier for two reasons, they had already planned an early arrival for around 2 am...to load equipment at cargo pier...they then bumped it up and we arrived around 11 because of the sick passengers.

ahhh interesting. I was wondering how they managed to make it in to port so much early. It makes sense if they were already planning on an early arrival to the cargo pier.
