Budget Queen Posted December 19, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) Alaska is a LOT of "nature". :) I suggest you find out about Ketchikan. http://www.visit-ketchikan.com Head to the library Alaska By Cruiseship, Fodor's Alaska Port of Call, there is plenty of hiking available, along with walking areas around nearby attractions. Way too many to recommend one. Edited December 19, 2013 by Budget Queen
Mike2131 Posted December 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 19, 2013 We are looking for a good nature tour. Any sugeestions? You did not say whether it is early , mid, or late August. If bear viewing is a desire, there are several good options out of Ketchikan - Prince of Wales Island, Traitor's Cove, Neet's Bay, etc. None are inexpensive, but it is an impressive and thrilling site watching bears feed on salmon. I suggest checking both the ship excursion options and the independent (often the same) providers. All will undoubtedly require flying in a small airplane (with a water landing) to the location. If small planes bother you, that will probably not be a good option.
tracyktn Posted December 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Check out Wild Wolf Tours in Ketchikan for a great nature tour. It includes walking in National Forest with local native guide who points out a variety of trees and plants along the way. It is a great experience to be out in nature away from the crowds. Truly beautiful area. Also stops at Totem Park and you hear interesting stories behind the totem poles. The price is reasonable too.

Ginger Pepper Posted March 23, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 23, 2014 We will be in Ketchikan in late August - early September and have arranged a "nature and animal" excursion with Island Wings (Michelle) - to Traitor's Cove to see the bears feeding on salmon and flying back to the ship via Misty Fjords - altogether about 5-6 hours.
