What ever name it was,he was not very good.Just never seemed sincere to me. More like a used car salesman trying to get you to like him and buy a car from him.Sorry-no insult meant to all the good used car salesmen out there!

I just did not care for him.Too slick and rehearsed. Didn't bother my cruise but didn't leave a good impression on me. I did enjoy his female sidekick though. I can't remember her name but was not the typical asst cruise director you would expect to see.

Does anyone know if Ken Byrne is still with Carnival???? He is the singing Maitr'd......My daughter & Family sail tomorrow on the Legend.....It is a beautiful ship....My husband & I were on its maiden voyage from London....It was the cruise of a lifetime stopping at Fance, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland,Newfoundland and then into New York. Anyone know what ship John Held is presently on?????????????

Ellen, Glen, Kim & Keith have a wonderful cruise.....................

Just returned on Legend this morning and we thought he was terrible. Just like a used car salesman.

AND how was your trip?? Was the weather good? We were on the LEGEND the end of JUne and took a ride to see it in NY today...so close...!

As for Brett Allen, he was the CD on the Legend 2 years ago, last year and this year. Maybe he needs a vacation...??

Wasn't Chris Jefferson filling in for him, not too long ago, for a while? At least, that's what I thought it said on the "all cds, all ships" thread.

Dreading having to go on the Legend with Mr. Alans, this August. Sounds like a real annoyance.

Nothing to "dread" - after all, a cruise is what you make of it... the CD (IMHO) has NO IMPACT on the quality of my cruise - the dealers in the casino play a much larger role in that respect ;) :D . We have sailed with him twice (once on the Legend) and if he is still there for our Thanksgiving sailing in 2006 - that's fine and dandy with me - though we will likely skip his magic act (already seen it twice!)

Brett Alans will be the Legend CD through Oct. 22 - he will then have a "fill-in" until his return on December 11, 2005.

The one thing on a ship which I do "follow" is who the PIANO BAR SINGER is... if he is "not entertaining" then I will only spend a short time (drink or two) there... this can be determined QUICKLY!!! Unfortunately, due to this, I rarely spend much time in the Piano Bar - when it is GOOD, it is GREAT FUN. On only 1 or 2 cruises did we end up spending LOTS of time there... keeping my fingers crossed for Thanksgiving 2005 and 2006!!!

Okay, so maybe "dread" was a bit too strong of a word. I've only been on one cruise prior to the one I'm going on this August. That first cruise had Mark Hawkins as the CD, from the Miracle. I just don't want to miss stuff because I'm trying to avoid a crummy cruise director, you know? Then again, I had no problem with Mark Hawkins, and I remember reading that he wasn't much different from Brett Alans. So maybe I won't feel the need to skip his stuff, after all.

...And maybe I think about things a little too much.

Good way of looking at it... I just got off the Miracle - and thought Mark Hawkins was a real nice fellow - I had a chance to talk to him a couple of times and he seemed like a sincere guy... I hope that "Karl with a K" will be back onboard when I sail in November, as I hear they are quite the "team" !!!

Mark got kind of a bum rap this last week, as a lot of people were coming down hard on him for the issues surrounding the hurricane - he was simply the messenger - it was the Captain (and mainly CORPORATE CCL) which put us into that particular situation (mother nature was involved too.. LOL)
