Help? Looking for Star deck 11 overhang

Any recommendations? Going Los Angeles to Miami Panama Canal cruise and am thinking Port Side mini suite. Want the Overhang. Any suite numbers to recommend? Debating on 11562; 11570; 11576; 11638. Definitely want the overhang, so not sure where exactly it is on the Star. Also, port side or starboard for Los Angeles to Miami Panama Canal? Want some sun, but don't want to cook. Thanks.

If you are traveling from Los Angeles to Miami - the port side will be the side

of sunrise and looking at land on the Pacific side. After transit the canal the

starboard side would be the side of sunrise and as regards looking at land

from the canal to Miami you will be out in open water and according to the

routing the port side may see a bit of Cuba depending on how close to the

island the ship will pass (probably 20 miles out and not much to see except

with hi-power binoculars). Weather may be a factor in how close to land the

ship will be.

I am doing the westbound NCL Star trip MIA-LAX in October so everything is

going to be the reverse for me - I have a mini-suite on deck 11 starboard.

Looking for an answer to your inquiry about this "Overhang".

Is this a projection of deck 12 slightly or fully over your balcony which may

be nice in bad weather but not so good for panoramic digital pictures ?

RE: the "Overhang"

As best as I can determine looking at photos and deck plans there is a 'ROOF'

an extended deck (12) over your mini-suite balcony. Great when it is raining

or other inclement weather - if you want sun best to go topside to an open

area.

The 'Overhang' extends for all staterooms on deck 11 port and starboard.

Thus vertical photos will be hindered by this overhang - you would have to

put the camera an arms length out over railing to get more sky. Was the

same way on the mini-suite I had on the NCL Sun deck 11.

So with a transit of the Panama Canal your mini-suite may have photo

limitations - suggest you go topside for the better photo angles.

Perhaps previous cruisers and critics may wish to chime in on this !

I haven't experience with those cabins, but have reached the same conclusion as others from studying the floor plans that the forward mini-suites will have extra overhang due to the new suites above them. My main reason for looking at those forward cabins is that having suites above them, they will be more quiet than other cabins on deck 11 that are beneath the pools and buffet.

You got that right - Was on the Carnival Victory stateroom 9th deck starboard

midship under the Lido deck AND all the crew did every night was to move the

deck furniture for cleaning and set up for the next days activities - "ABSOLUTELY NO REST FOR THE WICKED" !

Great idea to have a deck noise cushion for a better nights sleep.

So when selecting your stateroom check not only for crew traffic movement;

elevator and stairwell location and what is over your head.
