Spiralshell Posted January 3, 2014 #28 Share Posted January 3, 2014 We had an aft extended balcony on the Miracle and absolutely loved it. Totally worth it for a special treat! (It was our honeymoon)
Ehpride Posted January 3, 2014 #29 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Last cruise, we got a cheap last minute upsell to an extended balcony and it was huge compared to a regular balcony. I don't know if I would pay thst much for an upgrade but if you're going to spend a lot of time out there, you may find the regular balcony a little small. asalligo Posted January 3, 2014 #30 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I have to have my balcony. I have often wondered if I would be better off sailing twice as often interior, but I do not think I would enjoy the cruise half as much. Early morning when I wake up and the wife and kids are still asleep, I throw on a robe and I am out staring at the water. Late night when they are done and preparing for bed, I am sitting on the balcony enjoying the last few minutes of the day with the sea.

CruiseAwesome Posted January 3, 2014 #32 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I'd say if it's your first time, just get a normal balcony and splurge later on. You wouldn't want to be spoiled by the extended on your first try!
beachbum53 Posted January 3, 2014 #33 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I have never sailed before in a balcony room. This would be my DH 2nd cruise and DS 1st cruise. I would like a balcony since DH & I can sit outside if DS crashes early at night. He is 9 but goes to bed at 8 pm normally and if tired he doesn't hesitate to hit bed at 8 pm. So- yes, balcony will be booked but I just don't know if extended it worth it the extra $. And If so, even extra for an aft? We are looking into booking the Pride if that makes any difference. Thanks for your personal input on pros and cons!! Believe it or not, there was a time when the Aft balconies were not so popular. However, over the years, that has changed. Now, due to high demand and very limited availability, the cruise lines can charge more for those cabins, and they know that people will still want them. Is it worth it? Only if you plan on spending more time on your balcony than elsewhere on the ship. For us, a regular balcony works just fine. Whichever you choose, try to get a cabin that only has other cabins above or below you. Otherwise, if you have a cabin with some sort of public area, such as a lounge, casino, or whatever above or below, you'll be subject to more noise. crusinpsychRN Posted January 3, 2014 #34 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I love the extended balcony! You don't have to crawl over furniture or legs to move around. But I'd never pay more for it. I've been able to get extended for the same price of regular.

Greatescapes Posted January 3, 2014 #36 Share Posted January 3, 2014 We usually try to stay in a balcony on special occasions for sure... although when you travel with children its not the best deal do to cost but for two it is very enjoyable.
