Hello,

We are taking our DS (9) on his first cruise this year. I want him to have his card but I'm also worried he might lose it. I looked on Ebay at those lanyards..but I can see him swinging it around or playing with it all day. I don't plan on giving him permission to charge, so IF it IS lost my acct isn't cleared out. But I was going to get him the unlimited soda and that is a sticker on the card. (we will be sailing on Carnival). I figured we can put like 20-30 on it here and there for the arcade. But what have other parents found helpful when it comes to the kids sing & sail cards.

Not sure about Carnival, but on RCI, our son was given a lanyard at the kids club when we register on Day 1. They punched a hole in his sea pass, and clipped it to the lanyard. He did not like wearing it at first, but when he saw other kids wearing them, he wanted to wear his too.

PS: On Royal, you can put limits on the kids cards. Carnival may do the same.

Thanks for the info. I thought he would need his card for the soda part of it and if he was playing in the arcade. I figured they are allowed to have drinks in camp carnival...unless they just provide them in there. And for the arcade, I wasn't sure if they let them go over there together in a group. Can you tell I never sailed with a child before, let alone my own!! He will NOT be allowed to wander on his own...his two older cousins might be going (14 & 17) and have not decided if I will allow him to tag along with them or not.

We just got of our Carnival Breeze cruise a couple of weeks ago with our 19, 15, and 6 year old kids. The older boys refused to wear a lanyard and kept their cards on their person, but I got a lanyard for my daughter. It was our first cruise and I had the same worries you do!

She never took it off, always remembered to put it on when she left the room and did a great job. I also bought her a plastic cup to carry around with her for the free lemonade and tea as we did not purchase the "bubbles" for her. We don't drink a lot of soda anyway so I did not see the point in it.

If you plan on taking him to Camp Carnival, they provide water. They stay in the Camp Carnival room quite a bit, although on the Breeze, they spent some daytime in one of the nightclubs as well.

I would get him a cheap lanyard and have his card punched at guest services or the casino. Make it clear that he needs to have it on or close-by all the time. I didn't see any kids swinging them around, they were too busy doing other stuff to mess with it I think!

Have fun! I want to go on another cruise! We were all ready to turn around and get back on the ship! Even more now that we're dealing with the "Arctic Storm" and -70 F windchills today! Brr!

I have 9 year olds - since they're either going to be in camp or with me, they never have their cruise cards themselves. The last thing I want to do is wait in line to get it replaced when we're trying to get off the ship. There is no soda access in the kids club, so there is never any opportunity for them to spend money when they're away from me, so no reason for them to be carrying the card.

Best,

Mia
