Evenings/Nights in Perth?

Recommended Posts

I'll be in Fremantle on Monday Mar 3 (labour day) coming off RCI's Radiance. I have the 2am flight out that night, so was planning on renting a car to go to Perth. I guess everything's closed pretty much around 5pm Just wondering if there is anything open in the evening where I can hand out for a few hour till around 10pm.

Or any suggestions where I can go with a car from Freemantle (approx 8am) to Perth Airport (approx 11pm)?

thanks

Take a drive from freo to Cottasloe Beach, (easy short drive from freo terminal) there are some nice cafes there and good beach

Keep heading north along the coast and head of away from the coast in the direction of Scarborough Beach, the road comes back to the coast and take a look as its as good if not better than the world acclaimed Cable Beach in Broome, Turn right onto Scarborough Beach road heading east and it will take you almost into town, Turn right at Thomas road then left into Kingspark drive, take a few moments to view the spectacular view of Perth and The Swan river from the lookout.

Kings park drive becomes St Georges Tce, turn right anywhere for a drive to Barrack st jetty and the bell tower, then its only a short drive from the city to the airport:)

Most cafes pubs and many restaurants will be open on a holiday Monday, Northbridge is the best place to be for early evening and just a short drive from Barrack st.

Try to park up in James St Northbridge, still a very simple short drive to airport.

Perth City is just a CBD with shops lol.

Perth cafes and restaurants only closes Good Friday but with penalty rates having to be paid to casual wait staff some have chosen to stay closed on Holidays but not too many,Northbridge will be open though:)

I think your idea of going to Crown Perth is quite good but only after you have seen Fremantle , Cottesloe Beach & Kings Park.

Crown has really lifted lately with bands , very good restaurants and if you are into casinos you can have a bet as well.

Great suggestions but what about spending some time in Fremantle?

  1. Visit the Maritime Museum
  2. Seafood restaurants at the Marina
  3. Fremantle Goal
  4. Travel on the FREE CAT - free bus around Fremantle
  5. Cruise up to Perth on the Swan River from Fremantle
  6. Back to Fremantle via train where the station is situated close to the River Cruise wharf

Just my ideas from spending a few weeks each year visiting my 2 sons in Fremantle / Perth.

Train service in perth will be as slow as Donkey on a public holiday:D

Goal will be closed on public holiday:(

They are going to hire a car for the day so a good chance to see a bit of Perth beachs and surrounds.:)

The seafood places at the marina are way too expensive these days.

Cruise luggage will be a problem without a car thats why most just taxi to the airport.:(

I would and do recommend the river trip either way but in this case the OP,s plane leaves at 2am so they have a 17 hours to kill so I also think the hire car is a good way to go;)

Yes, also keep heading North along the coast to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Heaps of restaurants, shops and a pleasant drive to get there.

Also the Swan Valley is lovely if you enjoy wine and cafes. Not too far to the airport either.

Enjoy !

We are also disembarking in Peth off of the Radiance and have a 12 midnight flight. We were wondering the same thing as to how to spend our time there and also get to the airport. RCCL does not offer a tour with transfers for this.

Any ideas for what to do without a car such as hiring a tour that could also go to the airport. Thanks.

I am sure the ship will offer a tour that finishes at the airport but perhaps read some of the suggestions and also check out your rollcall.:D

Perth is very easy negotiated by car especially with GPS:D Think L.A USA then think Perth but much smaller and 50 years ago:)

Public transport and cabs forget about it as it is very flat and vast with a retentively small population!

Perth CBD area has some of the best most pristine beaches in the world within 5 miles of the CBD! Western Australia has not allowed development at the majority of its beaches like the rest of the world. at the beach you get just beach and sea!

If you are lucky enough to have the time to watch a West Australian Summer sunset for the first time from Cottesloe Beach or Scarborough beach you would not regret it in a lifetime!

Perth Beach Summer sunsets show a "Huge" sun dropping into the ocean and its as if you can hear it sizzle till the sea puts it out lol.

You can just sit and watch the sun as a huge red/orange circle as it slowly drops into the seas horizon without another person sitting beside you.

I live in Perth and am so used to it its just normal lol.

Too many people miss way too much of Perth because it is not public transport friendly compared to other States.

Those that do visit perth usually come back to stay! me 1981 visit 1981 to present "Resident forever";)

With a midnight flight you would be best advised to rent a car;)

A cruise up the swan is a great way to spend an afternoon.:D

Trouble is with cruise luggage combined with a very late flight out would leave you stranded at barrack st Jetty with no after option but Casino or Northbridge which entails keeping a beady eye on luggage with both! Or you wont get a cab to the airport!

Some have no idea (not saying you:)) That most cabs have been snapped up 24/7 by Perth,s increasing number of FIFO mine workers so much so that its easier to enter the airports VIP or express car park and pay a kings ransomed for drop off just to avoid the constant airport traffic jam!

double check car hire as we are in Fremantle and boarding ROS on March 3. We are hiring a car for 3 days prior but have to return it by 10am as they close at 10 on a Public Holiday. That is at thrifty car hire. but maybe if you are returning to Perth airport it might be different.

I just checked thrifty have cars available.

http://www.thrifty.com.au/

send me an email if you book one. We have to drop luggage off at about 8.30am - 9 and take our van back so maybe we could give you a lift to car hire and you could return favour and drop us back at port. Cheers Val - email is muso1612 at gmail dot com
