mickev99 Posted January 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Hi! We are thinking about cruising Royal Caribbean (Freedom of the Seas) in June/July. Our other option is Carnival (those are the two lines out of Port Canaveral in that time frame). I have seen kid's program examples for Carnival, but nothing for Royal Caribbean. Does anyone have a sample that they can scan in here or email to me? One of the main things I'm looking for is if they close throughout the day. I just cruised Norwegian last month and their kid's program closed from 12-2 and 5-7, which really infringed on other "adult" things we wanted to do. I see that Carnival is the same way. Does Royal Caribbean close on sea days at certain times? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!
sharktums Posted January 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Yes Adventure Ocean (Royal Caribbeans program) closes on sea days between 12 and 2 then again 5 to 7. On some ships, time of year, and days on board, they will offer kids lunches and/or dinners where they can stay during those times.
rebeccalouiseagain Posted January 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) On port days- you can leave your child onboard all day but they will charge and hourly fee if the counselors have to take them to lunch. It is $6 per hour per child from 12-2 Edited January 8, 2014 by rebeccalouiseagain
Rjasmine Posted January 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2014 We just came off of the Oasis New Years cruise. There were over 1500 kids on board (so we were told). I'm not sure if Freedom is the same, but they were open every day from 5-7 for adventure dining, no extra charge. The one night we did it, the kids were taken to windjammer. The free sessions were 9-12, 2-5, 5-7 (adventure dining), 7-10. We had early dinner and wished we could keep our kids there until 6 and then pick them up for dinner, but that is not possible. Any kids there after 5 will be taken to dinner. Now for lunch, on port days they have a 9-5 port session and if your kids are there from 12-2 they will be taken to lunch for free. On sea days, they do have. 12-2 lunch session, but then you do pay an hourly charge $7 dollars I think. The sessions are all just guidelines of which activities they do when. You can always drop off / pick up in the middle of a session, etc.
PattyG12 Posted January 23, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2014 I wonder if they have this option on the Explorer. We'll be taking our grandson in May and I'd love to do one night at the specialty restaurant. I don't want to bore my grandson (6).

They had Adventure Dining on Grandeur, so I would assume it's also available on Explorer. I am not sure if it was offered every night or not, but it was offered for first formal night. Just ask at AO during registration.

I am sure they are very similar to those offered on Freedom.

Just feed him in the WJ or from room service, make your dinner reservations for 7:30 and drop him off at AO at 7.
