Short notice?

How short notice do you need/want? Most cruise lines offer much reduced rates after final payment. If I were in your shoes and could go ANYTIME, I'd pick the time I wanted to cruise, then research where I could go on which cruiseline. And compare costs and obc's available.

You can book up until the day before (24 hrs?). You can do searches on the websites of your favorite cruiselines for the time periods and ports you are looking for. Often if you wait too long the cruise is sold out or only the more expensive staterooms are available. For example, there is a Celebrity cruise on Jan 13th that had empty cabins. Last Thursday, you could have booked an inside for $119pp but by the end of Friday, there were no insides left. I could have booked an Aqua class cabin 2 days ago for $239. Today, the whole cruise is sold out. It took me until today to know that my schedule would allow me to go, so I missed out on this deal.

When you see what you know is a good deal it's time to book, and this is not always during the last few weeks before the cruise.
