cdm2 Posted January 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Does anyone recommend a hotel near the Fort Lauderdale port for RCI Oasis? This is our first time cruising and we are going to stay in the area the night before the cruise just as precautionary measure. Don't want to chance missing the cruise!! :)
TJMK Posted January 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2014 The Hilton Marina Hotel is nice and has good views of the port from the upper floors. Also the a Embassy Suites on 17th St. Walking distance to anything you may need.
paul929207 Posted January 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2014 We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express on 17th Street SE, Within about 1/2 mile of port entrance and easy walk to Publix (grocery) and Total Wines & More (wine, beer, alcohol, soda, water, etc.)
cdm2 Posted January 10, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Are they reasonably priced? We are looking for something cheap. We are just going to fly in late Friday night so we don't have to rush trying the fly and cruise the same day.
cdm2 Posted January 10, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted January 10, 2014 This may be a silly question paul.. But are you walking to the port since it's so close? Or taking a taxi?
Corby114 Posted January 10, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Port Everglades is a huge commercial port covering a large area. Depending on how many ships there are in port and at which berth they are located it's definitely better to use a cab to get to the port. If you decide to stay overnight at any hotel located on 17th street the cab fare will be very inexpensive.
JanineM Posted January 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2014 We usually stay at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street. Lots of shops nearby. They do offer a shuttle to the Port. It was $8 in the spring.
cdm2 Posted January 10, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted January 10, 2014 Thank you! We were looking at the holiday inn express on st road 84. It was $100 for the night. Not too bad. Does anyone recommend a particular website to get airfare? I've been on cheap air.com and it's def not cheap! Haha
CruiserDen Posted January 10, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 10, 2014 We have stayed at both Embassy and the Holiday Inn. While Embassy had some nice perks, we weren't really pleased with the staff and the price. Holiday Inn is just as close to restaurants, shopping, (Walgreen's is just down at the corner for last minute items) and the free breakfast wasn't bad. Staff was very good and accomodating. Although you are close to the port, you really are not. It's a long walk from 17th St to the actual port entrance. Either hotels can arrange a shuttle or taxi at a reasonable rate and you are dropped off right at the terminal.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 10, 2014 We have stayed at the Embassy Suites many times both pre and post cruise. It is handy to the Harbor Shops where there is a Publix for anything you may have forgotten, stores and restaurants. We always take a taxi to the ship. It usually runs around $10 plus tip. Even though the Oasis is at pier 18, it may look like a short walk -- but it isn't.

It will give you a list of most available flights for your time. It does not track Southwest. Most airlines you have to factor the cost of the luggage too. paul929207 Posted January 10, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 10, 2014 This may be a silly question paul.. But are you walking to the port since it's so close? Or taking a taxi? We will take a taxi. While the hotel is close to the entrance to the port, it can be a ways to where your ship is docked.

Does anyone recommend a particular website to get airfare? I've been on cheap air.com and it's def not cheap! Haha Try kayak.com and the individual airline sites Also check the cost of flying into West Palm Beach or Miami. But if you flight into one of those airports, consider the added cost of taxi to/from the port, and additional travel time needed.
