Cruise Insurance

How close to your cruise are you still able to buy insurance? Our biggest concerns are weather and getting sick before we leave. Any suggestions on where to look for a plan that would cover these issues? Thanks.

You may purchase insurance at any time but any known hazards wouldn't be covered (for example, you buy a policy 5 days before a cruise and a named storm exists that later prevents you from sailing). I always use www.insuremytrip.com and find a policy that offers the coverage that I need at an affordable price and I buy the insurance within a week of making a deposit on a cruise, which usually gets me a pre-existing condition waiver.

I use my mastercard and buy trip insurance on it. Any trip i purchase with my card is covered for cancellation. It also covers medical and damage waiver for rental cars.

Its a 100.00 per year. I'm Canadian and not sure if its available anywhere else or not. A great price for anybody that travels.

I use USAA's third party company for all of our trip insurance. We have to purchase it within 21 days of booking, this gives us time make hotel arrangements as well that are also covered, if we want the pre-existing medical conditions policy for DD. She has had seizures in the past, but currently is 3 1/2 years without any, that if suddenly came back could keep us from going. Best thing is her trip insurance is free, so DH and I only pay $80-something dollars collectively and have everything covered including cancelling for work, luggage protection, car rental protection, medical and evacuation coverage, even life insurance. It pretty much covers anything accept "cancel for any reason" which would only be needed if we decided to cancel our trip "just because". And who wants to do that?! Lol
