Outside the port we are all of the same "class" till you go through X-ray and head to suite/VIP lounge. Edited January 14, 2014 by duce95
Rare rjm11 Posted January 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Actually in Seattle in 2010 our porter noticed that we were in the Haven, and flagged someone over (this was still on the curb as we were unloading the taxi), and she took us through some side door right through security, bypassing the line, and into the VIP waiting area. It was our first suite experience, so we were surprised when that did not happen at Tampa. I am trying Miami in October, so I don't know about that.... and I don't know if our experience in Seattle was typical.
maja651 Posted January 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Last April in Miami, there were 2 lines for security. One regular, and one for VIP. So, yes, there IS a special security line for Haven guests and VIPs in Miami. Edited January 14, 2014 by maja651

Perhaps they were testing a new system.. So I guess I'll take your word for it and would love to see it at all ports. Thats the only portion of VIP that could use a change IMO.. ;)
hpecorari Posted January 14, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I've never seen two lines for security in Miami. And as of our last cruise in October, leaving from Miami, in a Suite, we had one security line we waited in along with everyone else on that ship. Once through Security is another story. maja651 Posted January 14, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Weird! I promise we saw 2 lines right before you enter the building were you go through the security scanner and put your carry on through the security. The VIP line was to the left. SMerritt Posted January 14, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Departing on the Epic next week......... I am going to definitely check this out, even though the security lines have always been fairly fast and efficient in Miami Once inside, the VIP check-in is a high point of embarkation day

We were getting out of the car and someone looked at our documents and took us straight up bypassing the long lines. That was one of those WOW Haven moments. We've sailed from a lot of different ports and Seattle was the only one like that. Pat
Artemis Posted January 15, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 15, 2014 No VIP line at Miami as of Dec 8, and they were not staffed to provide timely VIP escort after the suite guest check-in. It was definitely not special.
david_sobe Posted January 15, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) I have sailed from Miami every cruise ship in suites and non-suites. There is no VIP or special security screening. Everyone goes through security together. Once you get past security, the VIP or suite lounge is immediately to the left after security. They will program you and give you priority embarkation escorted on the ship. But all of this comes after security. The port of Miami runs the security. NCL runs the suite VIP lounge. These 2 do not overlap. Edited January 15, 2014 by david_sobe

We cruise last April, and there definitely was a separate line leading to the security scanning table/machine and the security scanner you walk through. The left side was VIP and the right side was regular. This was when we boarded the Epic. After we passed security, then we walked into the VIP room to check in. bdl729 Posted January 15, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 15, 2014 I am curious about Miami VIP security line as well. We are on the Sun in April. Last year, we were in the Haven on the Gem out of NY. We had a separate security line to the right of the regular security line. When we got to the front of VIP line, we were allowed to go through scanners before others who had been waiting in the regular line.

All I can say is they didn't have it last October in Miami. I asked about it since I've heard people mention it here on CC. There was ONE security line. When you got to the front of the line there were two different scanning places....you choose which one to go to, however, you still had to stand in that one line just to get to the scanning place to put your purse, etc. on. The port security can set it up however they like. As you can see by the replies its very rare .. Who knows , maybe there were a few xtra special vips that cruise.. Not to worry , we dont think your crazy ... Did you see any UFO's during that cruise ?? :D
hpecorari Posted January 15, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Did you see any UFO's during that cruise ?? :D  ::smiling:: When I was about 15 years old my parents took me on my first cruise. I remember like it was yesterday my dad asking me if I ever saw an unidentified flying object. I, of course, said no. He had me look to the side of the ship and threw a plate overboard. There was my first vision of a UFO! Silly now....but at the time it was great! Thanks for bringing back the memory. That was many many years ago. R.I.P Dad! Then you cruised 2 months after me ;) I have sailed in 3 suites with NCL from the port of Miami and only NCL will give you priority embarkation. I have never seen or experienced separate security lines of any cruise I have been on. I think you are confused because there are 2 x-ray machines and 2 lines to get past security. However, those 2 lines ONLY exist AFTER the wind around from one line. This is only to get ALL passengers through security faster. It has nothing to do with VIP or suite guests. So I think your memory is correct, there are 2 lines with 2 x-ray machines but everyone just goes to where the line is shorter ;) Because of this, the lines move very fast. The waiting in the security line is the ONLY efficient thing about the port of Miami ;) On a personal note, all of this VIP boarding is rubbish. I have been in suites and have experienced regular passengers board faster than us. Not that I care - just making an observation and point. Sometimes the suite lounge can get very crowded with families with many children. Even the latitudes lines are a joke. No one checks your latitudes level even though they have clear lines for platinum, gold, silver, and bronze. We tried to follow the rules but found the gold line the longest. After waiting about 45 minutes, we jumped to the regular line and boarded much quicker. So go figure - the shortest and quickest line was not any of the latitudes line. Just another point and observation ;) Edited January 15, 2014 by david_sobe

The regular line is always faster as there are less 'non latitudes members' or 'first timeers'. However, I have to say that the last two cruises I was on that I was not in a suite, the CAS line went very fast! Harriet
maja651 Posted January 15, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Ok, maybe I am mistaken. Hummm. When we boarded there really wasn't a line for security, at least not that I remember. I just remember the left scanner line for VIP and the right for normal. I guess I will see again next June! :) Ok, yes, I may just be crazy.
