krdougan Posted January 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 16, 2014 We are going to be in St. Thomas for 1 day towards the end of March. We are a large group of about 38 people with about half adults and half kids. We are looking for a beach for our day in St. Thomas and would like a place that rents snorkeling equipment, has great snorkeling, rents loungers, has some public restrooms, and easy access to food/drink. I had planned on us going to Sapphire Beach, but with the closing of the dive shop, that plan no longer works for us. I have read about Coki Beach and Secret Harbour, but am open to other suggestions. As long as the beach has everything I described above, we would probably prefer a less crowded beach. Thanks! thesawch Posted January 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 16, 2014 if snorkeling is a must then coki beach is pretty well the best place
blue_water Posted January 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Secret Harbour cannot accommodate half your group unless you are the very first ones there. Coki is even too small for such a huge group. You'll want to consider splitting into 2 - 3 smaller groups to make this work. You can draw straws to see who gets SH and who gets the more crowded Coki. Even then you'd have to herd every last one into taxis as soon as the gangway is dropped. A 3rd group would go to Cowpet Bay where the Elysian is. So between SH, Coki, and Cowpet you should all have a good day enorkeling and can compare notes and pictures at dinner that evening. Not sure about snorkel gear rentals at Cowpet so check on that. This would be easier in a port that had beach clubs designed to cater to larger crowds. There really aren't any places like that in the eastern Carib that also offer great snorkeling... caribsun Posted January 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 17, 2014 38 people going to Coki will be a challenge.
Ms411 Posted January 17, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 17, 2014 A group that size is too big for the snorkeling beaches on St Thomas, so St John is a better option because their snorkeling beaches are larger. Cinnamon Bay is probably the best option.
