BeachBum777 Posted April 5, 2014 #102 Share Posted April 5, 2014
I agree, but would add to try it out on a very short cruise first. Some people are unaware that they have mild claustrophobic tendencies until they are enclosed in an inside cabin with the door closed for an extended period of time. Being in there for only a few minutes with distractions, such as on a cabin crawl, or going in to use a bathroom, is not enough time for most to find out. Those who have severe claustrophobia will know right away and want to get out of there. But someone with mild claustrophobia would only start to feel somewhat uncomfortable after being in there for a while, and even then may not realize why. X-elite Posted April 6, 2014 #103 Share Posted April 6, 2014 We've had inside cabins in the past and they were a value for the amount of time actually spent in the cabins, but now we do choose to spend more for at least balcony cabins. However, no judgement at all on how others decide to spend their vacation budget. The troll posts on this thread (e.g., the three posts directly before mine all by the same person) add absolutely nothing to the discussion -- they detract from the thread. Such posts make me wonder what is wrong with the poor guy. His most offensive posts from yesterday were thankfully removed by the moderators. Perhaps time to read "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" since some basic social skills were not acquired at some point in his life. AmberTeka Posted April 6, 2014 #104 Share Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) We have had insides on Carnival. We have sailed Princess, NCL, HAL, & Celebrity but never in an inside. We did have OV on HAL once, and Celebrity. Back in 1975, we sailed in an inside on NCL.............. On Carnival is was fine. They have larger inside staterooms. They are 185 sq. ft. usually. Both times were cruises that we booked at very, very short notice and sailed almost immediately. One we had that was near the mid ship elevators, ( like stop off of the elevator on Deck 9 and there we were at our cabin. I liked them. I have issues sleeping, and Honestly, I have never slept so well. We had to have a wake-up call in the mornings, and we have never done that before. I would be happy sailing in an inside cabin from now on, but my husband would not be. It was cozy. We had the beds separated to make more space in the middle, and as it is true that often you don't spend much time in your cabin, it never seemed too close. & I loved the price. My husband, who was in the Coast Guard Reserve.............had issues. He said he felt a little claustrophobic, but then I suspect he didn't want to set a precedent. He likes to smoke a cigar on the balcony, or just chew one if they are banned. And Celebrity does ban them, and I am fine with that. They are not good for him, and he did not even take the habit up until he was retired. You will be fine, I bet. The Clock is a must. And when you have shore excursions....A wake up call would not be a bad idea either. We also had them remove the chair that was in the cabin. Our beds during the daytime because our "sofas". Not that we were there much. We eat three meals a day, donate to the casino, I like the production Shows, I play bingo, We are Trivia Addicts..........and I wrote an essay too. My Bad. But I worried too. This is an interesting thread. Edited April 6, 2014 by AmberTeka

gailjen Posted April 22, 2014 #106 Share Posted April 22, 2014 As we are talking everything Inside, looking to book Reflection for Med cruise in Aug, we only now have the choice of Guaranteed cabins for 3 and there is only £160 between each grade. I've searched the deck plan & can only find inside 12 for 2 passengers? So totally confused if to just go for cheapest grade. CHAPEAU Posted April 22, 2014 #107 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Hi My Wife and I 10+ cruises, this past month we were on the royal princess on deck 10 in an inside cabin we always had a balcony, it was great, quiet and saved on cash which you can use elsewhere such as bar bill, excursions, specialty rest etc. Have a good day

harz99 Posted January 12, 2016 #110 Share Posted January 12, 2016 Why are you resurrecting a thread with the last post before yours being April 2014?
helen haywood Posted January 12, 2016 Author #111 Share Posted January 12, 2016 Well, thanks for resurrecting it! I'm the OP and I'd forgotten about this thread! I generally always have five or six future cruises booked with different lines and often change my mind and switch them about as was evident if you followed the whole thread. I did end up trying an inside cabin on a Reflection cruise. We never felt claustrophobic. The cabin was perfectly fine and I didn't really miss having my own balcony; there were plenty of places to go and read privately or watch the ocean by myself. What was a downer was, yes, you do sleep very well in an inside. Too well. I evidently have an overly developed circadian rhythm. I need light to convince myself its time to get up. We thought we would wake normally when we heard our fellow passengers waking in the mornings. Well, we did, and we went right back to sleep. OK, so then we resorted to setting our alarm clocks. They went off, I looked around at the total darkness and tried to tell my body it was 8:30 and time to get up. My brain said to my body "Don't be ridiculous!! Its the middle of the night!" and we went right back to sleep. If I persisted and forced myself to get up I was in that irritable angry mood teenagers get when you roust them out of bed at noon. I just could not adjust to not having any light! I'd go back to the cabin in the afternoon to take a nap and instead of the cabin feeling cozy I'd wake up in total darkness feeling lost, alone and abandoned. Now this isn't claustrophobia....its something else entirely. My husband, meanwhile, was thrilled with the money we were saving and told me everyday how he was perfectly satisfied and we could always book inside cabins. So. I would still sail in an inside if price/circumstances warranted it. But I have done the experiment and for me I need the light. If there was a substantial difference in price between balcony and oceanview I think I'd be OK with an oceanview. Or one of those virtual balconies. Thank you all for your help and advice on this issue.
JRYMCMB Posted January 12, 2016 #112 Share Posted January 12, 2016
No, you will not be miserable, and yes, you will be happy as a clam. Many of our 30+ cruises have been in inside cabins, and we loved them all. We frequently set the cabin tv on the bowcam station, and turn the sound off. We can see what's going on during the day, and if we wake during the night, we can tell right away if there is dark or daylight, whether we are approaching port, etc. Enjoy your wonderful cruise.
We do the same too anytime we have an inside cabin, I do find with inside cabins my sleep schedule gets thrown off a bit due to the lack of natural sunlight, but that can easily be remedied with some Breakfast room service and a wake up call ! :)
