Question about Gem Aft Balconies

Hi everyone. We usually book the Aft PH on the Gem with the large balcony and cruise once a year. This year we are thinking of an additional cruise in a balcony on the Gem. Which aft balcony cabins have a larger balcony?

Quick question - I was contemplating switching from Grandeur to Gem for our next cruise, and was wondering about the Aft vs. Forward Penthouse suites. Is the square footage given inclusive of the deck? We are booked in GS on Grandeur, and it's about 340 sq ft cabin plus 100 sq ft deck. I just wanted to see which suite was roughly the same size. Thanks.

We were in cabin 10000 on the gem a few years ago when she first came out and didnt really get to enjoy the LARGE balcony much...once the ship was in motion at sea it was difficult to get out there with the wind....With that in mind, we enjoy AFT facing suites no matter what the size is..as long as you get to use it....:)

Ah...just noticed that on the deck plans. When they say forward, they mean forward...lol. Yes, I think aft would be better, as you can actually use the balcony. :).

Yes. I saw these. I was just trying to gauge in my own mind how much bigger/smaller this was in comparison to what we had (we have only been on one cruise...lol), but I like the additional activities/option on Gem, and I love the itinerary, so trying to do side by side comparison. There would be three of us, my wife, me, and our 5 y/o son. I think the 2-bedroom suite is overkill for us, but one of these larger suites might be perfect.

I have sailed in both types of Penthouses. They are the same inside. The square footage difference seems to be from the balcony. The forward balcony is twice the size of my deck 10 aft penthouse. I liked both but prefer the aft as it is usually a little less expensive and I like the balcony door better and no wind. I like the front because I found it fun to see the officers on the bridge and the giant sized balcony. I also liked that it was closer to the spa and casino - 2 of my favorite places on the Gem. But... the aft is close to Cagneys and the fresh baked cookies every evening from the Great Outdoors. You cannot go wrong with either. Enjoy!

OMG...fresh-baked cookies would win over my son and I. Thanks!

Your butler can deliver the warm cookies to you each evening. We asked for some on our third night and he automatically brought them to us every night after that. You can smell them baking from the balcony. My sister and I found them and the Great Outdoors by following our noses up the stairs. Ask for some milk to go with them. They baked them between 7 and 8 pm each night.

Our room 10668 (was next to yours) has biggest balcony (lower floors smaller) Ours was as long as yours, but maybe little narrower. Room for two loungers, table, and two chairs (but not wicker). Best regular balcony room.

Safe sailing

Tina & Jeff

Was in 10164 in December, you can tell it is the largest, just look up at the other decks above you as they are set back. We did have some junk land on our balcony from the Great Outdoors, the only detractor. Wasn't a big deal, just told the cabin steward and it was picked up.

WOW nice size balcony for a regular balcony cabin! I have to remember that cabin number. Thanks to everyone that answered me-we decided to bite the bullet and go with the PH again as we would miss the breakfast and lunch at cagneys too much.:D

Cabin 10164 on the Gem is a penthouse, not a regular balcony.

I had a feeling as its the same size as 10666 PH which we had last week and which we ended up booking for June! Couldnt give that up for the tiny balcony in addition to Cagneys. We are excited for our first summertime cruise!
