MsMot Posted January 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I am in search of a good foundation that will stay in place and most importantly not give me an acne flare up. I want to snorkel and do the water slide, but I have a) raccoon eyes and b) acne scars. Going bare faced is not an option. Any suggestions? gingera Posted January 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2014 I used Dior last time I cruised...but, found later into the cruise to go 'naturale' was best. The makeup was good in warm climate but my skin was so moist all the time I didn't like not wiping off my face.
cb at sea Posted January 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2014 Waterproof or not...NOTHING will stand being wiped with a towel. Get a little tan...it will help with the raccoon eyes! Go with the flow...no one (I guarantee this) will be looking at you! Folks on vacation are totally self-centered and wouldn't notice a Zeti in their midst! Hopefully Shiseido has a shade that matches my complexion. I tried the Tarte foundation for my last cruise and found that it did not hold up to perspiring in the sun or the water. Gypsydrifting Posted February 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2014 I use Kat Von D liquid. It always stays in place unless I use a scrub to remove it. I have a lot of redness caused from a medication and am very embarrassed by it. Sent from my VS870 4G using Xparent Pink Tapatalk
bluewater723 Posted February 4, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2014 I second the Shiseido recommendation. Thumbs up all the way; I love their products.
pezhead Posted February 4, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2014 Dermablend! I have psoriasis that likes to flare on my forehead and lower chin, it's my go to for those times. I just make sure to scrub it off with both remover and the clarisonic brush at night. Clinique Even Better serum did we wonders for my acne scars, that's a possibility for long term. ClassyGame Posted February 11, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) I second the Kat Von D suggestion. Her liquid foundation has incredible staying power. I tried it out and it didn't budge. My skin's very dry, so it didn't end up working for me because of that, but the coverage and longevity was amazing. And like the person above me suggested, Dermablend is great. I personally have never tried it, but my mom has very thin skin due to medication she takes, and her hands and arms bruise and cut very easily. She uses Dermablend to cover them up, and you can't even tell she's wearing anything. Edited February 11, 2014 by ClassyGame
twoputt.plusone Posted February 11, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I've never try Tarte foundation but love the eye concealer! I'm using the Tarte mineral foundation right now and am not impressed. It's OK but not worth the price. I much prefer Bare Minerals.
CrimsonQueen Posted February 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 12, 2014 Estee Lauder Double wear is what I wear in the Summer (and cruising)....it holds up to the heat and humidity of the deep South and I have to blast it off at night. I may try a sample of the Shiseido, though.....now that you've mentioned it :p
At Sea 4Ever Posted February 14, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 14, 2014 A bit off topic but if you are looking for a great waterproof eyeliner try Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On. It's amazing it just doesn't move lol. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Henryhorn Posted February 14, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 14, 2014 My daughter has a similar problem and I understand going bare faced isn't an option.. We have been trialling some samples from a firm called Atalier Paris, one is gel based the other waterproof. The gel one needs removing with lotion, the liquid will normal cleanser, both give a good coverage which should stay on through water. If you google them they have tiny pots as samples for 75p each, when we enquired about the gel foundation they sent two free samples. The downside is of course you wont get any kind of tan, but perhaps you could go make up free on your balcony?
LrgPizza Posted February 20, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 20, 2014 I second the Kat Von D suggestion. Her liquid foundation has incredible staying power. I tried it out and it didn't budge. My skin's very dry, so it didn't end up working for me because of that, but the coverage and longevity was amazing. I will THIRD the recommendation for Kat Von D liquid foundation. I'm not much of a foundation person, but after reading about this on this forum, I thought I'd try it out. This stuff is great. It gives the best coverage of anything I've ever tried, even though it feels light and airy. At the end of the day, it is still the same as when I applied it in the early morning. It's more difficult to wash off than others I've used, which leads me to believe it will hold up well in humidity, moisture and such. I am so glad I decided to check it out. Joyfredsblondecruiser Posted February 27, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 27, 2014 I like Merle Normans powder base it seems to stay on beautifully when I swim. Happy sailing, Joy
