Winston Wolf Posted February 3, 2014 #51 Share Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks! Now that I think about it I remember people being in an uproar that the Getaway Haven wouldn't have a moveable roof. I guess I assumed that the structure would still be there...but it certainly just looks like it's open air. barnacle_boy Posted February 4, 2014 #53 Share Posted February 4, 2014 The original design had an open-air courtyard area, similar to the one on Epic. Breakaway's was added later in the design due to her deployment year round in NYC. Getaway is as the Breakaway Class was initially conceived: open-air with a glass windbreak just aft of the mast. Magrodomes (retractable glass roofs) have a less than stellar track record aboard ships. Breakaway's is no exception. Glass panels in the dome are cracking at an usually high rate, faster than they can replace them. Meyer Werft knows about the issue and is more or less at a loss as to what the cause is. It's likely due to unanticipated vibration as a result of the dome's late addition. I think it's highly unlikely you'll see anymore covered Haven courtyards on NCL's future Breakaway+ newbuilds, at least not like the one on Breakaway.
