mahasamatman Posted January 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We just signed up for this cruise along with some friends - it looks like it should be a great experience. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll get inside the Antarctic Circle. This trip should go a long way toward my bucket list item of visiting all 17 species of penguins in their natural habitats. http://walkingadventures.com/adventures/explore-antarctica-2015/#itinerary If anyone else is on this cruise (or wants to be), post here! mahasamatman Posted March 27, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted March 27, 2015 Oceanwide Expeditions did a great job. Though we unfortunately didn't get inside the Circle due to an emergency evac of one of the SCUBA divers, this was without a doubt the best trip I've ever taken. Only two penguin species however (gentoo and chinstrap), so there are more trips in my future...
PerfectlyPerth Posted March 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2015 This was the trip that departed the day I disembarked the ship (I did the NZ to USH trip straight after h2so4's trip). I gather it was a combo of two groups - hiking group and diving group. Sorry to hear one of the divers had to be evac'd - are they ok ? Did they (the group) get many dives achieved ? And how did the hiking group go ? I am still unpacking and doing laundry etc but will soon get photos sorted and uploaded and maybe even a trip report written ! h2so4 is way more organised than me :)

Sorry to hear one of the divers had to be evac'd - are they ok ? Did they (the group) get many dives achieved ? And how did the hiking group go ? We had 40 in the walking group. I believe there were about 20 divers, and the rest were unaffiliated. After the diver flew out of the Chilean base on King George Island, we didn't get any further news. It was during the check-out dives, and all dives were canceled after that - the divers ended up being snorkelers. The walking was excellent. A couple days were warm enough that we had to remove our coats on the walks.
