Islandthym Posted July 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Cruising AOS in Sept with family. Has anyone ever had the partition removed between your two rooms. From what I can tell the partition between our two rooms is smoked glass, we shared the same opening but it's divided. I read a few years ago that some people unscrewed it with a pocket knife then had the staff haul it away... Anyone have any info on this let me know!!! We are on the HUMP! 7620 and 7622
brn2crz Posted July 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2005 My understanding is that whatever ships used to allow this/be able to do this have since stopped allowing this.
Islandthym Posted July 20, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Does anyone else know if this can be done? It's no biggie, but it would make our little balcony feel bigger:)
Max Circus Posted July 20, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2005 It was forbidden during our last cruise on NOS. Asked the steward on the first day to open it since my SIL and BIL were next door. Said she couldn't do it - never got a real reason. I have read other posts on this board that mention security and safety concerns for having them open. I guess the captain would be worried about the doors "swinging" during rough seas and causing injury. As far as I know, the doors on NOS weren't removable. They had a key lock which seemed to allow them to open and be "tethered" to one side of the balcony. You can always ask. The worst case scenario is that they'll say "no". Islandthym Posted July 20, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted July 20, 2005 AH, ok... I thought they were "removed" not opened. So yes I can see a problem with them SWINGING in the breeze! Thanks for the info, but like you said we will still ask (doesn't hurt).
awm Posted July 20, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2005 I think that they are very accomodating except perhaps when it comes to dismantling the room! :D

quiltsnh Posted July 20, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 20, 2005 We were on the Explorer in April and it was not allowed. We had a whole row of cabins. Some of them did not have removable panels they were steel walls. Sort of a self contained unit. But those who had the regular ones were told it was not possible to remove. We were midship on deck 8. Islandthym Posted July 20, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted July 20, 2005 Thanks for the posts, Just thought I would see what your experiences were. I know I saw it mentioned a couple years ago. At least others of you have had the same thought and asked! Thanks again~~
TrentS Posted July 21, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 21, 2005 Princess will do that for you, but RCI will not.
Peggy13 Posted July 21, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 21, 2005 We were just on the Mariner last week and went to the Pursor's desk to ask them if we could remove the partition between our two balconies, first they said somebody would do it, then by the next day when nobody came down, we went back and asked again and this time she said "no we don't open those because of safety reasons". So, the first person who told us we could open it was wrong. We sailed Carnival a few years ago and they did open up the partition - makes for a nice big balcony. suzw Posted July 21, 2005 #13 Share Posted July 21, 2005 we had the partition opened on the EOS in 01, just got back from the NOS on Sat, we traveled with three other couples and I asked at least 7 different people to do it (steward, housekeeping supv etc) and no one would budge.... they must be strict about it now Suzanne
pcur Posted July 21, 2005 #14 Share Posted July 21, 2005 The "safety reason" the crew are referring to is the potential spread of fire from one cabin to another via the balconies if the partitions are removed.
Gingras31 Posted July 21, 2005 #15 Share Posted July 21, 2005 that is a bs answer about fire spread, It would have to be fully enclosed to prevent spread, and they are not.
pcur Posted July 21, 2005 #16 Share Posted July 21, 2005 It's not bs: it's straight from the Customer Relations Desk. With the partitions in place, it can slow a fire down. And, a happy Wednesday night to you, too! :D
