We are taking a cruise in January and are looking for a Ft. Lauderdale hotel that will pick us up from the airport for a nights stay and then take us to the cruise terminal in Ft. Lauderdale. If anyone has any suggestion I would greatly appreciate your help.

There are some that have shuttles, but I would recommend a hotel on SE 17th Street. That area is just outside the entrance to Port Everglades and less than 10 minutes from the airport terminals. It's a very safe area with many many shops, restaurants, and grocery & liquor stores within easy walking distance. Quite frankly most of the shuttles are more of a pain than they're worth as the airport, SE 17th Street hotels, and Port Everglades are so close together that it makes taxis far easier and more convenient.

1) Hotwire and Priceline are definitely worth a shot. choose the "downtown fort lauderdale" zone. See biddingfun.com and biddingfortravel.com for more info

2) A good 2nd teir choice is the La Quinta Airport, free shuttles and 10 minute walk to a huge shopping/resturant/entertainment area. Pretty lakeside location, solid 2 star place, good second teir option if you can't get or afford a place downtown. Free parking (as opposed to the downtown hotels which by and large all charge for parking) means you can rent a car if you want to tour around a bit:

3) Do a search on the boards, you'll find lots and lots and lots of posts on hotels in FLL

Hi we are cruising in February out of Miami, need a hotel in the vicinity of the ships port to stay for 1 night. Any help would be great.

For the Port of MIAMI these are all nice downtown/Port of Miami hotels that I would recommend...

Nonna5, Originally I felt the same way wanting a shuttle from airport and to the pier but after checking around I found that by the time you travel in January (us too) many will have discontinued the shuttle service that they're offering now BUT with the help of TrentS and others here at cc, I've realized that it's no big deal. The taxi fare's we're talking about are all in the $10-12 range if you're staying in the area around SE 17th Street.

I think the Holiday Inn Express on SE 17th Street may still offer the airport shuttle as well as the pier shuttle come January (also includes Continental breakfast and free internet access) My "very picky friend" stayed there and said it was nice, clean and newish. Also several here on cc have good things to say about Amerisuites which offers similar to the H.I. Express. You may want to consider either of these 2 properties. Also, search around on this site because this type question has been discussed on several threads during the past month or so.

From the lists on this posting, I noticed that the average rate is well over $100/night. Any chance of getting a room for one night for half the cost??? I am cruising in March 2006, and am just looking for a bed...

Try Priceline, Hotwire, or one of the discount sites... The SE 17th Street/Port Everglades area is considered "downtown" on those sites.

I noticed posters mentioning that shuttles will no longer be offered at some of the hotels in January. Is it only for January or are they discontinuing shuttles completely? We usually use the shuttle to the hotel but take a taxi to the port.

Don't be concerned with shuttles in Ft. Lauderdale. If you give priceline a try and bid 3 or 4* downtown or beach zones, you will not be far away from the airport or the pier. A taxi cab ride shouldn't be more than $15.

I highly recommend reading biddingfortravel and biddingforfun that the other poster recommended before giving priceline a try, but its well worth it, IMHO.

Good luck, enjoy your cruise.

definitely use PL for this city. Great deals on great properties. We stayed at Hyatt Pier 66 and loved it. As far as shuttles are concerned, you shouldn't be concerned. Taxis are easy to be had and there are several services in the area that you could also use. There were taxis at the hotel in the morning waiting to take people to the pier if you wanted.

Several of the hotels are discontinuing the shuttles altogether. They cite the rising fuel & insurance costs, plus the fact that the SE 17th Street hotels are simply so close to both the airport and Port Everglades, and taxis are so inexpensive for such a short trip, that they're not really necessary.
