Coming in after cruise for a day and we are thinking about staying at the Downtown Residence Inn on Hornby Street. Is this a good location to sightsee from, they said it was about $35 to get a taxi to the airport the next morning. We are using points so need to stay at a Marriott.

The Residence Inn is at the upper end of the downtown core - about a mile from Canada Place - I live a block away and the area around the hotel is fine - lots of eating opportunities - this hotel was extensively renovated a year ago and is under a new management company.

At least one of the HOHO stops there - if you have Granville island on your agenda it is a short three block downhill walk to the aqua ferry to take you over to that attraction.

You are a little further from Stanley Park etc.

There are two other Marriotts in the donwtown core only a couple of blocks from Canada Place - the Renaissance Inn and and Marriott downtown which are across the streets from each other.

Taxis would be about $35 - 40 from any of those locations.

If you stay at the closer locations to the Pier and you can handle your luggage you could walk a few level blocks and use our Canada Line rapid transit to the area.

Enjoy your cruise and hope you enjoy tour visit and this advice is useful.

Cheers!

Dennis

This is a wonderful hotel, I stay there frequently. The upper floor rooms with a balcony are especially nice. Breakfast is also good in comparison to similar hotels in the region. I would not spend the money on a cab, take the Skytrain from the airport into town, then take a cab. That will save you alot of money!!

The Residence Inn was a great choice for us. We stayed 3 nights pre-cruise and were very happy. The breakfast was good and the wifi was fast and free. The location ended up being a positive for us. If you turn left (away from Canada Place) you end up at English Bay, which is just beautiful. From there we walked to Stanley Park from the south end. Part of the time we stayed on the seawall and part in the interior. We had an amazing day there. On our embarkation day we took a taxi to the port and dropped off our luggage (easy breezy) and then walked up to the main entrance of Stanley park and saw that part, including the rose garden. The roses weren't in bloom but they had so many other flowers in full bloom we didn't miss them. There are PLENTY of restaurants close by. We walked everywhere excepted from Amtrak to the hotel ($10) and then the hotel to the port ($10). If it hadn't been for all the luggage we could've walked that as well. We walked to the Seabus and took it over to North Vancouver and went up to Lynn Canyon.

Feel free to ask any other questions. Hope this helps!

Stayed there several times, more like an apartment hotel - ask for a room with a balcony facing toward Burrard Bridge.

Nearby at 1193 Granville is Tsui Hang Village Restaurant if you like Chinese - good service and better than most. (The better Chinese restaurants are now in Richmond - far off toward the airport)
