kathy884 Posted February 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) How strange. DH just got an email message from Carnival today indicating that he had traveled 75+ days on Carnival and had reached Platinum status. But to date he has only spent 11 days on Carnival cruises: A six day Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale in 2007, a five day Canadian cruise from NYC summer of 2012, and we do have our third upcoming Carnival cruise, a seven night spring break cruise in March out of San Juan. It sounds like something is messed up with their record keeping. Should I give Carnival a call? What number would you suggest that I call? Has anyone else had a mistake like this happen? n6uqqq Posted February 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2014 I would log into carnival.com and check your VIFP account before calling Carnival. It may just be an erroneous letter only.
kathy884 Posted February 7, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Thanks. I just called Carnival, and it's part of a promotion. It's just a temporary platinum status for the a freebie cruise we are doing in March out of San Juan and ends after that. (Actually we paid taxes, paid for an upgrade from front or back balcony to mid ship balcony (my favorite place to be), and also paid for DS to be added to our cabin, so let's say low cost) // DH especially I think will like a quicker line for boarding, and we'll probably use the laundry service too. We usually pack light and do laundry on our own at least once, so this will be a nice freebie for us. They told me that even though just DH has that status, since we are all in the same room that we all get the priority boarding vs. splitting up. Their IT letter system just wasn't sophisticated enough to communicate new temporary platinum status perks that that they are giving out with some special promotions and used the standard 75 day email to communicate this, which totally confused me. NauticalMom Posted February 8, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2014 That's funny! Our first cruise was on Ecstacy, then we tried NCL and got caught up in their loyalty programs, so we don't have a status on Carnival. We did book a suite this time... So we'll be among the hated.... The FTTF is a quick way to get perks but I guess I understand why the Platinums resent them. It's just like the QBot or other skip the line options at amusement parks. Actually, since you have sailed the Ecstasy, you do have a status. Red. On your 25th night, you will turn Gold.

Lets home the masses doesn't read this Ill get my popcorn ready.. I'm platinum and I don't hate FTTF people... I'm not fond of rude people, with or without FTTF. That said, I thought it'd be the FTTF people who'd be ticked about carnival doing this. I mean they are now GIVING status away for FREE. Which comes with the same perks people are paying $50 for plus other perks the $50 doesn't. It's being given to folks just like them that don't yet meet the criteria... Just thought that'd ruffle a few feathers about "why not me". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No big deal, and offering to Red VIFP members to entice them to sail.

Lace Posted February 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 8, 2014 Who cares? I don't think it impacts either of you. Uh, with 21 CCL cruises, and platinum way before the program even started, it most certainly does.
Out to sea! Posted February 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 8, 2014 Uh, with 21 CCL cruises, and platinum way before the program even started, it most certainly does. How? Platinum status is Platinum status whether it was earned or given to someone as a freebie, via FTTF, 75 nights, 10 cruises or 99 cruises. If someone has Platinum status for whatever reason, they have the same rights as any other Platinum cruiser. If you're unhappy with Carnival's policies or decisions, your beef is with Carnival and not the cruiser and my suggestion would be to write to or call Carnival with your complaint. Another cruiser is not going to care in the slightest how many cruises you have taken with Carnival.
UpstateCruizer Posted February 8, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 8, 2014 I'm platinum and have no issue with FTTF. However it's frustrating to see so many free cruises/bonus offers, VIFP offers being given out but we have never received any of these incentives. DH had received a letter from Carnival offering him $25 OBC from some casino special a couple years ago. We already had cruises booked and our PVP said that Casino OBC couldn't be applied to our cruises. I think our problem is that we always have 2-3 cruises booked at a time and Carnival knows we are going to keep sailing with them. No reason to throw us a bone when they know we are already hooked. It would be nice to see something offered in our VIFP offers once in awhile. Ours always says " * There are no new Special Offers at this time. We update them frequently - so please check back for offers just for you" Oh well we do enjoy our cruises so that's a plus in itself.

I was referring to your current status with CCL. According to your comments in different threads, you have only sailed on NCL. So until you sail CCL, it is a moot situation. Georgiagolfer Posted February 8, 2014 #20 Share Posted February 8, 2014 Uh, with 21 CCL cruises, and platinum way before the program even started, it most certainly does. It impacts you no more than the number of new cruisers gaining Platinum status each week as more and more reach this level.

misstopgun Posted February 8, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 8, 2014 I wonder if a pseudo plat can bump an earned plat for limited perks, like dining times? Probably not, since dining times are usually established prior to boarding. Even last moment changes on board will depend on availability. Already assigned dining time would of course not be available.

If you are in the priority area, you could be #1 or #50. Does it really matter? Is there a benefit to being 100 yards ahead of someone else? Sounds silly to me. But some people on this board, JH blog, JH Facebook fuss when fttf casino or anybody gets onboard before they do .. So if they are gonna fuss about fttf paying 50 bucks. Im sure they will fuss about CCL giving away the perks for free..
