abisha Posted February 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) After reading all the posts from excited people receiving their "free cruise" letters, I took a peak at my "special offers" under my VIFP account, and although I didn't receive a free cruise offer , I did receive the Past Guest Offer with 2 category upgrade (big whoop). Since DH and I are booked on May 4 sailing on Breeze in balcony cabin on Lido deck, which is what I really wanted, then what else could there really be left that is better? What would they offer me? I assume it is only to go up higher which I am not interested. To me, this type of upgrade offer seems pointless and really not an upgrade. Now, if they offered me an upgrade to an ocean suite, then that would be worth it to me, but I believe that is not a 2-category upgrade..correct? Gingee Posted February 16, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I was told that it is within the same category of room. Balcony to balcony, inside to inside, etc.
abisha Posted February 16, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) I was told that it is within the same category of room. Balcony to balcony, inside to inside, etc. You're correct, and I understand what it means but my question is...what's the point? If I am on the lido deck, then where would I upgrade to or why would I want to? What could they offer me that is considered better? I would only have a choice to go one or two decks above. I can see if I was in an inside on riviera or main deck and had opportunity to go in an inside to higher deck like lido but in my case, the lido deck is already a higher deck and a desired choice for balcony location, so I just don't see the point. To me it's really not an upgrade. Maybe I am missing something here. Edited February 16, 2014 by abisha
old sole Posted February 16, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) The lido balconies are 8F I believe. So, at the time of booking you could pay for a 8D and get a 8F. I'm not sure if they will give you OBC now for the difference between the two categories, but I suppose you could ask. If you're outside of final payment (you said May) then you may be able to cancel and rebook if that works for you. Lollipop's Mom Posted February 16, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I wanted to book 2 cat down from spa balcony to save some money with my offer and was told no, you can't use it to upgrade to spa balcony :(. I got a great deal that is lower than what is being offered today for the 8d. I don't want to lose my cabin..I really like the location, etc. I will still call and maybe see if they might offer an OBC.
PDXJAS Posted February 16, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2014 Beware of the upgrade deals. In researching my next cruise. I did a comparison on my casino rate vs. upgrade VIFP#. Cabins were the same for both. My question was where's the up grade, if I can get the same room at a much better price with casino vs. VIFP? fishtaco Posted February 16, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2014 The past guest plus 2 cat upgrade offer for me was more expensive than booking the same cabin with ES!

PAPERBKWRITER Posted February 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I was told that it is within the same category of room. Balcony to balcony, inside to inside, etc. Over the years I've turned down numerous '"upgrades" since in my opinion being on a higher floor is a mute point. Although the upgrade was never to lido. I would consider that.
leaski Posted February 16, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I would gladly move up for free. We like being on the higher floors, but are not willing to pay extra for it. If it's offered at the same price, we would take it. :)

The past guest plus 2 cat upgrade offer for me was more expensive than booking the same cabin with ES! I have noticed this also, along with the information posted by PDXJAs that comparison for casino rate vs. upgrade VIFP#. Cabins were the same for both. My question was where's the up grade, if I can get the same room at a much better price with casino vs. VIFP? When looking at the rates listed such as early saver, or the VIFP or the casino rat, they are all the same. When doing a comparison with other online vendors, you are able to see the upgrade from booking a 4B to a 4F as an example, but with using CCL you can't. Even when I confirmed this with my PVP, he told me that the early saver and VIFP rates were the only ones being offered by CCL until the 16th, and the online sites have their own promotions which Carnival allows. Although the upgrade was never to lido. I would consider that. The Lido is a great location that I wold have never considered, but when I went on the Breeze and when into an IS and BL on the Lido, is was quiet as a mouse. Now when booking, I try to snag a Lido cabin right away.
abisha Posted February 16, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I just called and was told that when I booked, it was actually a 5-category upgrade which makes sense to me now. I asked if there was anything we could do to get any type of OBC to which my answer was only that we could each pay $50 for a $140 per person excursion credit. However, we are only interested in doing one excursion that costs us $50 each anyways. So that is pointless to us. This is our first cruise with Carnival that we didn't receive any OBC of any kind...oh well.

It's not mute if you're upgraded one deck below the lido and you're woken up at 4am to the sounds of chairs being dragged across the deck
parttimr Posted February 16, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 16, 2014 So would a 4B to a 4F fall under this upgrade? It's only a $60 difference but that's money that could be spent elsewhere.
Gingee Posted February 17, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 17, 2014 I always check to see what promotion is always going on before final payment. I just got another perk and price lowered so it is always good to check to see if it works to your advantage.
