flahagan Posted February 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2014 We will turn "gold" on the 4th day of our next cruise (a 13-nighter). Will we get to attend the cocktail party on this cruise, or will it not be effective until we complete this one?

Will we get to attend the cocktail party on this cruise, or will it not be effective until we complete this one? You will be Gold at the beginning of your cruise and will get an invite. If you check your boarding pass, you will see that you are listed as Gold. I am still showing Red on the website, but my boarding passes show Gold. I have turned gold and platinum in mid-voyage. My card reflected the change on my documents and when I checked in. Rare 1kaper Posted February 18, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2014 Ok. Thank you! I will join you in gold on my next cruise. Can hubby go with me to the cocktail party? He has red status? I followed a rather long thread that turned into quite a heated debate on this topic. Bottomline is there is no answer and there are quite a few opinions. To sum it up - Some people say yes, that everyone in the cabin is invited. Others say no, the invite is for the eligible person only as it only has their name on it and no mention of guests. Some people have asked guest service or the cruise director and have been told yes, they can bring someone. Someone asked John Heald and he said yes, they can. Others have just brought the guest without asking and had no issue. Others say that they were told no or not allowed. So I guess the answer is it depends. sacnaillady Posted February 18, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2014 I'll just bring him. Hopefully no issue. If there is I'll get my drink on and he can find something else to do :)
KateLovesCruising Posted February 18, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 18, 2014 I have this same question... I called Carnival to ask about a different questions and figured I'd ask them about our card status since I had them on the phone. We are currently Red Card members (with 21 VIFP points) and will reach Gold Card status on the 4th day of our cruise in June. The Carnival rep told me that we would not receive Gold Cards until our cruise AFTER this one. I didn't question her as to why, but then came on here and saw a different answer from everyone. Could it be because this is our "free cruise"? I've heard of some people not getting points for them. We'd really like to go to the past guest party! But, I have seen on this board that you do not get points for free cruises so that may factor into this. You would not be turning Gold on this cruise if that is the case. Have you checked your boarding pass? I am assuming what you are listed as there is the card you will get. crusinfamof4 Posted February 18, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 18, 2014 Sorry to ask another question, but we are taking an 8 day in August, we will turn to gold on our last day at sea--we would still be gold for the entire cruise? I called Carnival and like the other response said, it said we would be red until our next cruise. I didn't know if it was because we turn gold on the last day. Thanks. crusinfamof4 Posted February 19, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 19, 2014 Is it a free cruise like the other post? No this is a cruise we booked last year when we were on the Freedom. We were not one of the lucky ones to get a free cruise. :(

MzMelissa26 Posted February 19, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 19, 2014 I was missing two cruises on my profile. I did upgrade to an ocean view so maybe that's why I'm getting the points? I am not sure how the free cruise works. It seems some get the points, other don't. It also seems liek those booking free casino cruise offers get them and those that upgrade, so not sure exactly what the situation is. It may depend on the offer? As long as you are Gold on your pass :D

Rare 1kaper Posted February 19, 2014 #21 Share Posted February 19, 2014 No this is a cruise we booked last year when we were on the Freedom. We were not one of the lucky ones to get a free cruise. :( Then you should be getting it when you board. The PVP could be mistaken. I've been told that happens. Ours told us that I would be an exception to the "all adults over 21 must purchase the Cheers program" rule because I am pregnant but everything I have read here says otherwise. Guess we will find out Sunday. Check your boarding papers, they should say what level you are.
Prinycesa07 Posted February 20, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Ok. Thank you! I will join you in gold on my next cruise. Can hubby go with me to the cocktail party? He has red status? I'm gold & my husband was red last cruise (May 2013) and I took both my husband & my 2 kids to the past guest party (they were only 2&3 yrs old) and no one said anything to me. dogchopper Posted February 20, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 20, 2014 I am in the same situation. I have 22 points and am booked on a cruise in June (not a free one) So i will turn gold durring my cruise. My husband only has 18 points and wont turn gold (beause its only a 5 day cruise) My question is; Is this VFIP party the same as the past guest party? Or did they do away with the past guest party or.. Is there both a VFIP party and a past guest party??
MzMelissa26 Posted February 20, 2014 #24 Share Posted February 20, 2014 I think it's just the past guest party but only if you reach that level .. gold I think. .. I'm still learning
