PVP--Do they work on commission?

For those who have had a long standing PVP:

Does your PVP call you when there are price drops to see if you want to move to a higher category for the same price? Get you credit if it's before final payment and there's a price drop? Automatically fill ES forms when there are price drops if you book ES?

Just curious because I don't have a PVP and I'm trying to figure out what the difference would be for me if I had one.

My guy never calls me except to wish me Bon Voyage and to get my thoughts when I return. He even called me when I got back from my HAL cruise because he wanted to know what I thought.

He assures me the feedback I give him, and I'm brutally honest - including how unhappy I was when Carnival jumped the solo supplement to 200% just after I started sailing solo - is shared with supervisors.

But I rarely book ES. He knows I do all my own homework on everything regarding the cruise. He even asked me last week, when I called him to move my May cruise from Fantasy to Pride and mentioned the wine packages, how they work and did I think it was a good value.

When I tell him about "special" cabins that I've learned about here - the ones that are not as described on the websites - me makes note of them in case any of his other customers are looking for something similar.

I neither need nor want a hand-holder. Still, it would've been nice if he'd alerted me to the no-solo-supplement cruises from Charleston. I was already booked on one, with friends, so I didn't miss out on anything. I actually think he's too busy to do that sort of searching/tracking for me on a regular basis.

My PVP is excellent, but he doesn't call me for price drops. Literally, he has hundreds of active bookings at any given time and he would need to manually search each individual sailing to see if there have been price drops. Not only would it be time consuming, but it would be impossible to do while still performing his obligations.

With that said, there's an iPhone app that I recently downloaded which does track price drops. I won't post the name of it because I think it may be violating Cruise Critic guidelines, but I downloaded it just last week and I already had my upcoming cruise fare adjusted $400! :D The site automatically emails you when prices go up or down. It was awesome. I was on the phone with Royal within seconds of getting the notification!

I called my PVP today to make a payment on several cabins, and to add another person to one of the bookings. He was only suppose to be working from 10-1, but he told me they extended the NowIsTheTime sale a few more weeks and they were expected a lot of calls that the "reservationist" could not handle, so they have all the PVP's woking a full day. I don't know what the difference is between a Reservationist, CVS (Cruise Vacation Specialists), and Personal Vacation Planner (PVP), but it would seem as if the PVP is the top position.

I call the PVP if I booked ES, and there's a price drop. She will then check to see what the price drop is, etc. and then give us the price drop. I didn't need to fill out the form.

I realized with 2 Carnival cruises I had never officially signed up for the VIFP with all this free cruising giveaway...so I did..and a nice PVP that had called last summer checked in again..you can just tell..she is good..wish i could pass her on...just don't give up until you get someone you like..life is too short. I did not get offered a freebie but she gave me a "for instance" price on a cruise for an outside and no single supplement...good deals out there...I just may not want Carnival next however...

Good luck op.

I had used a PVP for some time and he was fantastic, BUT one night my wife and I were on the carnival website looking at cruises and we booked on an impulse without calling the PVP. Well, the PVP must have got a notification I had logged in and he called the next day to see if he could help us. When I told him I had booked on line and apologized, he got downright nasty with me and hung up. We havent spoken since and I now do it all online and am plenty happy.

I would hope since there are notes indicating what you requested and Carnival can see what happened they will make this right. Perhaps they need to move your cabin closer to your dads? Hope this works out for you

Problem is I have an extended balcony (sold out). The only thing that is available for him is on the deck below or same deck all the way forward. I am beside myself in frustration.

Would you be willing to give up your extended balcony and maybe move to a standard balcony forward so that you can be close to your dad?

I know that the situation is frustrating, and believe me, I would be too. Just trying to make lemonade out of lemons. If the one cabin that you wanted for your dad is now gone and sold to someone else, it may be time to go to plan B.

Wow. I think I would have sent a complaint about him.

I also booked an impulse cruise online without calling my PVP first and he actually called me from the gym, on his cell phone, to see if I had any questions or needed anything from him even though he won't get credit for my booking. I made sure to let corporate know how hard he works.
