Who has purchased the Onboard Credit Certificates before a cruise?

A friend of mine wants to pay for a spa treatment for me on my upcoming cruise, by getting me an onboard credit. At Celebrity's online gift area, if you select "Onboard Credit" a bunch of options come up, and basically you get certificates delivered to your cabin.

1. Do you present the certificates directly at time of purchase? Or do you ask the front desk to apply them to your account?

2. They have spa credit certificates, beverage certificates, dining certificates, and general certificates. My friend just wants to get me the general one so that I have flexibility. Assuming you actually present these things at time of purchase, does anyone know if the general one can be used at the spa, or do you need a spa certificate?

Thanks for any help!

I just took mine to the front desk and they applied it as a credit to our account.

No need even to take the card to Guest Relations, the credit will be applied to your account [along with any other OBC you have] around day 2 or 3 of your cruise. If you are concerned, you may go to Guest Relations before the credits appear on your account and they will confirm what you have. Have never purchased Spa OBC but with Casino OBC you can actually use it for anything.

I always travel with proof of purchase of OBC but have never needed to use it.

Thanks for the replies. I got conflicting answers from Celebrity on how this was handled. Finally a supervisor confirmed that, indeed, the card in the stateroom is just a confirmation of what has been applied to your onboard account.

Another question re purchasing OBC:

If I paid my cruise in Euro or any other currency except $ I can pay for my OBC in that currency, too. That´s nice to avoid credit Card charges for foreign currencies. Unfortunately, X only states the cost of OBC in Euro but does not tell me how many $ they give me if I spend 18,60 Euros on one OBC. Anybody here who knows how much $ OBC I get for my 18,60 Euros?

It's an even better transaction for GBP, so is a good idea to buy when the rate is favourable.

Our OBC 'gift card' was in the cabin when we arrived. It took me a while to realise that I had bought myself the gift.:p
