My family and I are taking a western Caribbean cruise on the Dawn April 6th. In the past we have always booked or excursions through NCL. Would we save money booking directly with Independent tours? Pros and con's?

I book independently because:

1. I manage my time and can spend more time doing what I like to do

2. If it rains, I'm not committed

Cruise tours are good for things like ATV, horseback riding....things you might not find from local tour operators.....I guess it depended on where you're going and what you're doing.

Yes, it does. Sometimes you can find a private tour that is not available on the ship. Other times it might be safer to take a ship's excursion such as when you are driving a distance, flying somewhere, or doing an activity where there could be a problem. (Example of that was on another line's excursion, our ATV group got stuck in the mud in a remote jungle area...sitting there saying I was glad it was a ship's excursion. Same cruise the ship waited an hour for a flight to come back with a ship's excursion to a remote Mayan ruin site.) On NCL our excursions have returned after all aboard several times, with the gangplank put up after the excursion got back on. Generally NCL excursions are pretty well done and reasonably priced compared to some other lines.
