Car tental in tenerife

Sorry to post this but I can't seem to do a search.

 

We are interested in renting a car in Tenerife at the port so that we can go whale watching in the south. The boat leaves from one of the ports in south tenerife, either americas or one of them. This seems like a more reasonable charge than a taxi at about $54 euros. Can anyone please give me advice on this? What is it like driving there etc?

Both CICAR and Hertz have offices at the port of Santa Cruz. CICAR get lots of good reviews and are reliable. Car hire and petrol in Tenerife are cheap. When we went on a Canary Islands cruise we rented a car in Tenerife and La Gomera.

We have had very good results when using CICAR. I love driving on this island (have covered most of the roads on several visits) and think its a great way to enjoy a port visit.

Definitely try Cicar / Cabrera Medina, it is a local brand, very reliable and with very competitive rates. We used them last October in Lanzarote and everything went perfect. They even give you a free CD with an audio guide of the Island. It makes fun since you learn a bit about what you are about to see :)

 

What is most important about them is that they don't charge you for full deposit at their own prices like others do (you have to return the car's tank at the same level as you found it), and also they won't block credit from your credit card as a guarantee after you return the car.
