Oh My Goodness Gracious Me! I am about to tinkle because now, it is coming up to the stroke of Midnight and I have only 49 days to go until I sail on the Exciting and Beautiful and Wonderful MSC DIVINA!

I write so many things that I end up deleting because my thoughts are from my alter ego and they are just plain mean. All I have to say is I am sailing and someone is not.

The best attitude, is the Pinky Attitude. Stand with me now! Let's all put our Pinky's Up in the air against this raucousness mandate of his deliberate negativity!

Is this true? Carnival owns Aida? We were docked across from an Aida ship on my recent Divina cruise in -- I think -- Cozumel. What I found interesting was the hammock on at least one of the balconies. I like that idea!

I would take this, any day of the week, Baked Alaska in an old fashioned Dramatic Style Presentation, over this old, drab, gross, HAL dining room... I can even smell the moth balls................

The Hammocks are a schtick of most newer Carnival Brand Ships and branded Renovated Ships. There is a considerable amount of "Adult Space" being dedicated by Carnival to all ships in their realm, especially the Carnival Brand and the older ships with the 2.0 upgrades with Serenity Adult Only Decks. But on every Carnival Ship we have sailed on, we have personally found that other guests with inside cabins sleep outside each night, and take over the gorgeous hammocks as well as the hard to get Clamshells. Nice, right?

Only on the Celebrity Reflection, were there so many hammocks, that it became a "Who Cares" if we had one or not. This beached whale can get into a hammock, but good luck getting me out!

But, the hammocks are romantic and cool too. Nice addition to any ship, and so wonderfully relaxing. The best are the hammocks in the spa overlooking the aft outside. Now, this is for the "Expert" to tell us what ship has the magnificent outside Spa Hammocks in the aft. PS, it's a ship he's never been on!

When we discuss cruising, we are concerned only with the design of the vessel. We do not discuss such trivial details as food, service, or safety. We discuss if there are pictures of old rust buckets on the walls from the early days of cruising.

We decide that if there is a proper promenade, then the bacon will be crispy.

Mattingly I like the cut of your jib. :D

Very interesting. But do many of them have hammocks on cabin balconies, as Aida apparently does?

To be fair since you won the Second World War for us we've been angry about it.

Not that you'd know because we are either tightly wound, excessively polite, or absolutely hammered. :p

I do admire the American work ethic. You guys work hard for your dreams and paid vacation time is a premium for you.

Meanwhile we get 20 days plus 6 bank holidays paid leave. By law. And, funnily enough, I'm spending every single one of them this year on an MSC ship.

In all seriousness I've been to America four times totalling 10 weeks in 6 different states (the fifth is in August when Divina docks from Rio in Miami) and in all that time I have never encountered anyone rude or nasty. Not one. That's some going. You're good people.

:) I like the sense of fun on this thread. Cheers to all of you! I expect to read many great reviews when we all get back from our first or next sailing on MSC.

Likewise, don't know how I'll cope without a promenade deck though, I'm used to spending a good 30 seconds crossing it on previous cruises. I'll just have to enjoy the views from the 15 floor, shucks!

P.s do you like what I did there? I used an American word. Yeeee haaaaaa. We're blending as I type.

This is my response to a complainer from a recent Charter on the Divina that I think should also be posted here! I wasn't on this Charter but I have been on a few other charters by different groups, so I have some experience with Charters! It seems most of the reviews/complaints on this Charter are way over the top, aimed at MSC with no complaints aimed at their Charter Company! (why?) That I find interesting cause Charters run the show so to speak, especially in full ship Charters like this one!

I have read many of the reviews from the charter you're talking about, and find it interesting that most cast no blame with the Charter company!

Having been on a few Charter cruises for 'gamblers' I know first hand it is the Charter group who is responsible for almost everything that happens, good or bad on a Charter cruise cause they are the ones who organized, and set it up! They are the point people who fix any problems! We had problems on our Charter cruises, but we didn't let it ruin our cruise!

The people who went on your Charter don't want to blame the Charter company (?) who set up the rules for the cruise before the ship left port!

Why, it was their Charter, could it be the reviewers are protecting their friends at the Charter company?

1) Complaints by reviewers about crowded dining rooms might be because the 'Charter' changed to go with anytime dining, and too many people showed up at once! DUH! The Charter should have known this, it was their fault!

2) Complaints about long times getting a drink, again the Charter's fault cause who knows their Charter members better then the Charter Company themselves! As was stated by other non-complainers 'we like to party more then average cruisers'!

Blame can go around, but it seems focused on MSC, not the Charter! Why is that?

Reviewers should ask themselves why they are focused on MSC mistakes, and said nothing about the Charter Company's mistakes! Maybe then their reviews would be more believable!

One reviewer from this Charter said he saw someone yelling at a bar tender about his cabin!

Another complained a bus broke down, do you really think MSC owned the bus, or was it leased/rented for this cruise! Maybe MSC should have gotten another bus company, maybe the Charter should have gotten you from the port to the airport, or maybe you should have taken care of it yourself, see, blame can go around!

I'm sure MSC made some mistakes on this Charter, as did the Charter company, I wasn't there, but having first hand knowledge of Charters, I thought it important to put these negative reviews about this Charter in perspective!!

A cruise on a Charter isn't the same as a regular cruise, not even close!

Agree on most points, but as a business owner, sometimes you've got to say no to a sale if there is not a high confidence level you can do the job.

If MSC agreed to anytime dining in the contract, it was MSC's responsibility to do it well, and apparently they didnt. If they couldn't do it well, they shouldn't have accepted the contract.

I have been following the three negative posters who are on CC about the RSVP Charter cruise. One is a 10,000 plus member and chimes in with a barrage of complaints then quickly chimes out, insulting anyone in his path.

What is strange is that there are now over three dozen you tube videos of this particular charter, and some are way over the top, even for my standards and border on pornography, but that is expected on a Gay Men's cruise. However, every single one of the three dozen videos, each say that "The Divina was the best experience, Ever!" "This has been the best cruise ever!" "We have had a wonderful time!" "This cruise has been fantastic!" And each video goes on to praise the cruise, The MSC Divina and The Cruise line.

Jerome and I have been on a RSVP Gay Cruise and also an Atlantis Gay Cruise. Neither one of us will ever to on another charter with those companies. The specialized party activities these cruises provide are not our cup of tea, nor the behaviors exhibited in the videos, are the kind we follow. One only has to watch some of the you tube videos, and wince as I think, oh my gosh, my mother just saw that.

To each his own.

What surprises me most is that these anti Gay MSC Divina CC posters, are GAY and perhaps don't realize that several of the hierarchy of MSC USA are as well. It was these very Gay Executives that brought RSVP to The Divina. There is an unwritten code in our community to stand together, even on the extreme, and not bash each other. Gay Bashing is not a part of my life as I have grown up with it and I can always find something good to say in any situation.

The Charter has the run of the ship, the guest pays the Charter Company, not the cruise line. The Charter Company sets the prices, not the cruise line. Many of the "Undesirable, lower cost cabins" that sell for significantly less on a normal MSC Divina cruise, were jacked up to support the "Charter" mystique. I would complain too, if I had a balcony that looked at a life boat, or just a french door and no balcony. The cruise line only has the responsibility of passage and meals. Entertainment is the responsibility of the Charter. The Anytime Dining issue was probably too much for the new employees on The Divina to handle and that perhaps was MSC's mistake, and sadly it was a Live and Learn situation. I am sure that the MSC Exec's all sat around a board room table and said "Yes, I think we can pull Anytime Dining Off", as that was a major stipulation of the contract. However, on the other hand, I as a passenger, after a night of partying, I know how I can become when I am hungry, imbibed and swaying. So a clash ensued.

One other thing. The 10,000 poster who chimes in and chimes out with a barrage of negativity, after reviewing over 300 of his past posts, I rather suspect he is not telling all. It's curious, perhaps he is with the charter company himself. Ergo the motivation for him to damage MSC's reputation for us NON Charter Folks who will have an entirely different experience on The Divina. I don't give anyone that much power. It's my money and I will spend it where I see fit.

And one other note on Charters. The MSC Divina in January and February, had two other successful back to back charters with different groups, HolyShip and another well known music industry group. Both were enormously successful and both have incredible you tube and Cruise Critic endorsements of The MSC Divina. It's all in the Charter!

I take Charter comments and reviews with a grain of salt.

Agreed, but sometimes you don't know until you try! You'll notice at the end I say there was blame to go around, but as Cruiseguys has stated, one complainer has ties to the Charter, and blames 'everything' on MSC in his recent review!

As the old saying goes, 'there's 2 sides to every story', and 'the truth usually lies somewhere in between'!

And as a former business owner myself, you learn from mistakes, and I'm sure MSC has!

I'm just trying to bring a 'fair' perspective, and add conversation to some of the negative reviews!

Unless I am dreaming, I thought I remembered reading a couple of times you asking this poster for more specifics as to his complaints. Did he ever respond to you? If he did not nor will not, that is telling in and of itself.

With your positive attitude, I am sure you will have a great time whatever you choose to do! :)

About the "European style", there is no such thing as that. 740 million people live in Europe. Neither exists a Mediterranean style, basically because the Mediterranean sea is a mix of cultures within little distance. MSC offers, at most, an Italian style experience, and within Italy there are major north/south differences as well.

About the "my time dining" in the charter cruises, I was surprised they offered it. MSC it's very weird on that, either they do 0% my time dining, or they do 100% of it. Why not assigning an optimal % like other lines do?

I agree with you, I like 'my time' dining better also as do you really know when your hungry from day to day, and every day on a cruise is different, some sea days, some ports days, and those affect my eating habits as well ! You may have to wait with 'my time' dining to get a table, but it would be a fair trade off to me for eating in the MDR when we're hungry! Just my opinion!
