susiesan Posted June 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2004 After 30+ Caribbean cruises on big ships, it's time for something different, a sailing ship. How do the cruise lines compare? For winter 2005, Windstar has some specials that make it much cheaper than Star Clippers. But Star Clippers is offering free airfare to the ship. Which would you take if you had a choice? Thanks for the feedback. Susie in Kansas City
billteer Posted June 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Susie: I have been on Windstar (the smaller ships, not WindSurf) four times and on the Royal Clipper only once. Windstar is more elegant and more comfortable. The Royal Clipper had some fun things to do like climb the mast. The food and service are better on Windstar. So I prefer Windstar, but I would sail on the Royal Clipper or one of the smaller Clippers if the itinerary were appealing. Three of my last four cruises were on Seabourn which outshines them all. Hope this helps, Bill
Host Walt Posted June 13, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2004 The target market for WindStar is the upper end of the prototypical cruise market; the experienced large ship cruise passenger who is looking for a different, but not too different, cruise experience. The target for Star Clippers (and Windjammer) is younger, more adventuresome and not necessarily interested at all in large ship cruising.
