Gingee Posted March 4, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Someone was telling me that La Romania tends to get the bad weather when hurricanes come. Any experience anyone? We are doing Grand Turk, La Romania, Curaco?(sp?) and Aruba in June.
gerryl12 Posted March 4, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Every place gets bad when a hurricane comes. Just hope you don't meet one.
Bonnie J. Posted March 4, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2014 Ships can't help it if they run into rain, wind, etc. But they WILL NOT stay in any area if a hurricane is forecast for the area they are supposed to sail in. Ships go to a different part of the Caribbean when a hurricane is forecast where they are supposed to go. La Romania is no different from any other island with weather. It rains there just as it does in all the Caribbean, no more, no less. If there is a hurricane coming, your ship will not go near La Romania! Ships might go to other ports if prevented from getting to the planned port. It is not automatic nor guaranteed. You don't just show up, it has to be pre-arranged. SrTrPro Posted March 4, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 4, 2014 I am sure you meant La Romana in the DR. Not many hurricanes in "Romania". Bruce
SPacificbound Posted March 4, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2014 The ABC islands Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao are outside the hurricane belt. http://www.islands.com/editorial-guide/hurricane-safe-caribbean-islands-aruba-bonaire-and-cura%C3%A7ao

sail7seas Posted March 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2014 While June is in Hurricane Season and one certainly can develop, the highest risk is usually considered August/September though Hurricane Season runs through November.
