jtwanabe Posted March 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) Is there a place on the magic that an amateur stargazer could get away from all the light pollution and use binoculars to look at the stars? You would think that being that far from urban pollution that the sky would be dripping with stars. Anyone actually done that. golfadj Posted March 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2014 One of the secret decks on the front of the ship could work but the problem is the ship is usually moving pretty fast at night and it gets awfully windy.
jtwanabe Posted March 5, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted March 5, 2014 Love wind ... I'm curious though if there is something about being at sea like too much water vapor or something that makes the sky not be as clear as you might expect. I searched on Triumph but could never find the a good place. JT
mek Posted March 5, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2014 Simply too much light pollution from the ship to see much than brighter stars. Also, it depends if the moon is dark. I've never been able to see the Milky Way even on the darkest nights - lots of stars, but only a faint haze at best.
Branman Posted March 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2014 You could always check to see if Deck 5 forward is open. Should be if it isn't too windy. That will be dark because it's below the bridge.
tncap Posted March 5, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2014 I have found that the very top/front of the ship is best for this. Anywhere midship or aft will have too much light pollution from the ship itself.
cherbear4000 Posted March 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2014 I haven't sailed the Magic, but I have on the Dream and Breeze. Deck 5 all the way forward is pitch black at night. You can definitely see the stars and there are rarely people there.
