To put things into perspective WHY the majority of the Crimea want to join the Russian federation...

Have a look at the wikipedia info regarding one of the major political parties in the new Ukrainian government...Svoboda. This is a Fascist party that has vowed to exterminate all Russian influences in the Ukraine, forbidding the majority of the Crimea and Eastern Ukrainian people to speak their primary language, Russian, putting ethnic backgrounds on passports ( like the ****s did), and forbidding government and civil servant jobs to anyone but "native Ukrainians".

The EU is now suspecting Svoboda to have shot protesters themselves through their own sniper teams, including the blogging First aid girl that caused outrage Worldwide.

The Crimea and Eastern Ukraine did NOT want a new Fovernment, they were happy with the one they democratically elected.

Fraud? Timoshenko is one of the richest persons in the Ukraine, not the poor little housemother activist some media portray her to be....She is the definition of fraud. However, the elected government of the Ukraine was also very much guilty of fraud, unfortunately standard practice in politics Worldwide, including the EU and the USA.

The Western Media will ALWAYS demonize Russia. Just like the Russian media are not objective towards the West and the Ukraine. But have a critical mind when watching or reading the media and do some research...

I too have Ukrainian friends, but fear that they have chosen the wrong path by giving Svoboda a lot of power. There is currently no other country on the European continent that has such a fascist Ultra right party in their government

That the USA and the EU support this beggars belief and proves that the only thing that is important to them is to weaken the Russian influence on Eastern Europe and the World.

The above is a certain perspective, but it's not a universal view.

For example, saying that some don't like the current government because it's not as pro-Russian like the previous government was, isn't exactly a strong justification for wanting to secede. In any case, the 'current' government is only an interim one since the previous one was split up and the leader ran away... to Russia no less.

Thus, it's eminently misleading to suggest that some Ukrainians have given Svoboda a lot of power.

The agreement had been that there would be new elections in the near future.

It also ignores the reality that not everyone in (almost) any country is happy with the government that gets elected. That doesn't justify secession either.

This isn't about demonising Russia, but that Russia is taking advantage of a situation by invading another country, using weak and invalid justification (because they want to protect Russian speakers - I guess that means England can invade any country it wishes to protect English speakers) and inciting resistance - well they're not unique in that.

Nobody is trying to 'weaken' Russia in this act. They're responding to Russia's intrusion in Ukraine. When one country invades and intrudes another, it always causes a reaction. Not many people like their country being invaded and occupied, and annexed in this case.
