Abxcsx Posted March 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2014 We are taking a 30th anniversary and daughters college graduation trip. Only time we can go is New Years week. Taking two cabins 2 adult children and us. Concerned it is wrong time of year for FP and spending a lot for special trip. Holding b cabin and picture window twin deck 4 for kids... Is this a mistake because of rainy season? Thanks for the advice on rain and cabins Is food and drink top quality? Will 20 something kids like the trip? SarniaLo Posted March 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Oh, OK. So I guess this is really not the right forum section for that question (this is the board for Hurtigruten, an Norwegian-based line, offering cruises in Norway and Arctic/Antarctic regions). Maybe here? http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=627 Edited March 8, 2014 by SarniaLo

Will 20 something kids like the trip? I took my 20 something daughter for new years on board the PG. The celebration was very sedate but all of us had a lovely time and the weather was excellent as well. Last February it was quite rainy but some new years the weather has been good. You are not going to have a rollicking new year but they usually have an on deck part ( or used to) and of course the champagne is flowing. I believe they also have a special new years eve menu as well.
Tikiintahiti Posted March 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Your 20 something's will have a great time. More families go during the Holidays so just know it will be a bit 'busy' .......... Deck 4 is the favorite among returnees ........ the best bang for the buck. Veranda B has a slightly larger room & balcony plus the butler service. The weather will be a bit more humid and yes there can be more rain. However, in my many many trips to FP the vast majority have been in December & January and I would say only a handful of days out of 130+ days have been outright "rainy" ........... twin123185 Posted March 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 12, 2014 I did a New Years cruise 2007/8 on the Tahitian Princess and the weather was perfect and the trek to Rangiroa was smooth. You will have a grata time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
Abxcsx Posted March 13, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted March 13, 2014 I guess you like the ship as well, i see how many times you have sailed the pg
Emdee Posted March 13, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2014 A lot of us our repeaters. I have sailed 7 times on the PG but met someone who has sailed 35 times! It's a mixture of FP and the PG. We are severely afflicted by the FP flu and only returning can assuage it.
cruisefun27 Posted March 13, 2014 #11 Share Posted March 13, 2014 I have to agree with Emdee and some of the others, We went on the PG in Nov. 2013 and caught the PG and FP flu and so now we are going back on Aug. 30 for another dose of the PG and FP flu fix. We're ready!!!

MotuIslander Posted March 14, 2014 #13 Share Posted March 14, 2014 Now that I have poked fun at my good friend Emdee... I would say that there is about 2 degrees difference in average temp and a BIT more humidity in their summer (northern hemisphere's winter), but it is only noticeable when you are in the interior of an island. On the open sea is is not really an issue. You COULD get rain at almost any time, but we have had few days that were really spoiled by the rain. We just returned this New Years for our eighth cruise and our second December/January sailing. I did find that the holiday sailing had more kids and teens. Really hard to go wrong on the Paul Gauguin!:D ~Motu
