Every ship I've been on makes exceptions to their rules and policies, especially chair hogging. Carnival , it seems to me, allows violations to their dress code more than any line I've sailed. I've seen men in sleeveless shirts on elegant night several times. One man was in front of me and received a friendly good evening from the staff as he walked right past them with impunity. I think these rules are made in hopes most abide by them with little attempt to enforce them. Carnival knows its customers and acts accordingly.

They are not supposed to be, how ever, when we were on the Sensation, people did come in in dress shorts and longer shorts, some still inappropriate looking.

And if it was a night other than Cruise Elegant those in dress shorts were in compliance with the suggested dress as stated on the Carnival FAQ page.

I just wanted some clarification about wearing shorts in the MDR. I thought I saw something about shorts not being permitted in the MDR. Is that accurate?

My son has always worn shorts on elegant night and we have never been turned away. He was 9 on our last cruise. Maybe the child who got turned away was older. I would assume the rules apply more after about 13.

I wore khaki shorts, polo/button-up, and flops to dinner about every night except elegant night.
