Ultimate Dining Package Re: Tipping

Lets not forget the original meaning of TIPS is, "To insure prompt service". So there is nothing wrong with handing a server a few dollars at the beginning of a meal to make your dinning experience that much better.

Actually you tip to ENSURE service not INSURE. When you ENSURE something it means you take a proactive action to try to make the desired event happen (e. g. tipping to ensure a quality level of service). When you INSURE something you take the action to prevent or minimize a loss in case of an undesired event (e. g. you INSURE your car in case you are in an accident).

OK now back to the discussion at hand! :)

Without having read all the other answers to your question, I would just mention that usually the waiters in the specialty restaurants are the best waiters on board, and some times they really perform such an excellent job that they deserve a little extra tip. We have not cruised and had the UDP yet, but we usually have the majority of our dinners during a cruise in one of the specialty restaurants anyway. And if we have a waiter who we find extraordinary then we tip him/her extra - usually somewhere between $5.00 and $10.00. And ask for the same waiter the next time.... ;)

But yes, they are covered in your daily service charge.

I do the same thing and usually always leave a little something (cash) at the specialty restaurants for the server.

Let's also not forget that this is completely wrong.
