VegasMark Posted March 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2014 I've been on many cruises and never have had an issue using my cell on board an American embarkation/disembarkation port or even in Alaskan cities. On my upcoming cruise, we are overnighting in San Fran and spending other days in US cities. We will tender in Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Catalina Island. My question is will I be able to use my cell while on the ship in San Fran or while a few miles off shore on the tender days without incurring wireless charges from the ship tower. Thank you so much in advance!!
Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted March 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Allegedly they turn off their cell signal when in port. I think on tenders it might be iffy. Your best protection is to check the source of the signal before you make a call. If it's your provider, good. If not, hang up.
rockfsh Posted March 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Just take your phone off "roam". If your carrier's signal is available you will see it.
