Suites Question

I'm thinking of booking a family holiday (multipe rooms), which would be a first time with NCL for us. We quite fancied the Haven concept, but it isn't available on Norwegian Dawn, which is the ship on the itinerarty we are looking at.

So, if we booked multiple suites (Penthouse up to Garden Villa), do we get any specialist dining priviledges thrown in? Or is it MDR only, unless we splash the cash for other restaurants? This would probably be a deal breaker for us with such a large party, because we don't mind splitting up now and then to explore but wouldn't want to be in MDR most of the time.

The back up might be to eat in-suite. Is the menu just MDR food, or would we get a choice from any of the grills and other restaurants?

Many thanks.

Because the Dawn does not have the Haven, there are no dinner dining privileges included in the suite amenities. You do get to have breakfast and lunch in Cagneys which is limited to suite guests, however.

But, for dinner, you would have the same choices as everybody else - main dining rooms (or buffet) or specialty restaurants with the normal upcharge. You can have meals served in your suite by your butler, but the upcharge will still apply to any entrees ordered from the specialty restaurants.

esp13 is correct and this info applies to all NCL ships. Haven guests may have dinner in the Haven but it is my understanding that there would be a charge for dinner. You might be surprised at the food in the MDRs and buffet usually are quite good and sometimes excellent:)

The dinner in the Haven restaurant (Epic Club on Epic) on new ships (post-Epic) is complimentary, fee is only if you bring outsiders there.

The Garden Villa guests will get a comped dinner in a specialty venue of choice.

Here is a test. Add $100 pp to the total fare paid. Would you still have booked the cruise if that was the quote ? So just add $100 pp to the budget and enjoy 4 or 5 nights not in the MDR.

GV in room dining is perfect. Keep in mind if you order off a specialty restaurant menu your butler will provide a bill for the cover charges.

Thanks for the very quick replies.

Pity about the benefits, but I'm still awaiting prices so it may all come out in the wash. I guess it will depend how it compares to Celebrity and Cunard, where top end cabins get food quality to match, plus some or all free booze, etc.

I get the point about just add $100 to each fare, but looking at the brochure and at up to $35 a head (plus gratuity?) for speciality dining for 14 days and quite a large party it could be a whopping bill.

Any other suite perks like stocked (and restocked?) mini bar, priority embarkation, a bit of free internet time and so on? I can't spot anything in the brochure, but some other lines almost always do quite a bit of complimentary stuff if you're paying for a lot of real estate.

All suites get priority embarkation, disembarkation, tendering tickets. No free Internet. Garden Villa comes with six full sized (1 liter?) bottles of liquor and unlimited mixers/sodas/water plus one bottle champagne. Owners Suites and Deluxe Owners Suites come with three bottles of liquor and unlimited mixers/sodas/water plus one bottle champagne. All others come with one bottle of sparkling wine and one bottle of water. As said above, usually the Garden Villa will come with one free specialty restaurant dinner for its occupants only.

Ditto this - if you book the GV, you will receive six bottles of liquor of your choice (from a specific 'well liquor' list - not top shelf) and unlimited mixers of your choosing. We also chose to bring coffee syrups on board and DH became quite the barista with the Lavazza machine, whipping up all sorts of lattes at no additional cost ;). As someone else noted, the concierge will likely invite your party to dine at a specialty restaurant of your choosing at no cost - for one night. If you select to order specialty restaurant room service, each member of your party could select a different restaurant and yet you can all eat together. Good luck to you & enjoy your adventure!

The other option is UDP...if you add the price of that to the price of the suite you are going to have then compare it to the luxury lines prices, you will more than likely find that it is still cheaper to book NCL suite and add the unlimited dinning package, that way, only the people in your group that would like to do the specialty venues, they can, and you are not spending extra money on the ones that would just as well prefer to eat at MDR, Blue Lagoon or Buffett ;)

Cancel that last question. I just found the thread that says $199 for 10-15 days. Does this cover any and all restaurants, including in-suite dining?

If we do 7+7 days B2B, does this count as 1 x 14 days or 2 x 7 days at $119 a shot?

All speciality restaurants with fixed cover charge, not restaurants with a la carte pricing. More info about UDP terms here: http://www.ncl.com/udp/faq

It depends on how you book, if it's the same cruise two times, it is probably not available as combined itinerary so I'd guess that you'd need to purchase UDP for both reservations separately. For B2B sold as one combined itinerary, it's one 14 nights long cruise.

Here is a great list of suite perks prepared by WaldosPepper:

Suite categories are designated by the letter “S,” followed by a number (Haven suites) or letter (Non-Haven suites). Stateroom categories not beginning with the letter S do not receive perks.

• Haven suites have access to the Haven regardless of where they are situated on the ship. The Haven has its own pool, hot tub, sauna, and sundeck. Some have their own restaurant and bar within the Haven complex. Some Haven's also have a retractable roof over the central area. Haven configuration varies based on ship class/generation

•All suites have complimentary access to a private restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

• All suites have Butler and Concierge service. The Concierge can assist with dining reservations, shore excursion booking and guidance in many other areas. He or she also provides delivery of invitations and information to the suite, and performs all escorts on and off the ship. The Butler provides delivery of daily amenities, meals en suite, replenishes coffee and other supplies, and oversees the maintenance of the suite. Gratuity should be based upon services provided.

• All suites receive invitations to a special cocktail reception with the Captain and other Officers.

• All suites receive priority embarkation {including express through security and check-in, as well as a private lounge with various amenities to enjoy while awaiting escort aboard} and disembarkation {which includes a private area to gather, and escort off the ship & directly to the VIP Luggage area and Porter Services}, as well as priority tendering.

• All suites receive one bottle of Sparkling Wine, one large bottle of water, a bowl of fresh fruit (replenished upon consumption) and a fresh flower arrangement in their suite. (Note: Garden Villas, Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites receive Champagne instead of Sparkling Wine)

• Garden Villa's receive 6 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water, while Deluxe Owner's Suites and Owner's Suites each receive 3 bottles of alcohol with unlimited mixers, soda and water. All other categories do not receive complimentary liquor.

• All suites are provided with a variety of Elemis brand toiletries.

• All suites are equipped with a Coffee/Cappuccino/Espresso Machine (Most are Lavazza pod-style machines), however the Sun has Lavazza machines in the Owner’s Suites, but drip-style coffee brewers in all other suites (these suites cannot accommodate these devices).

• All suites have access to the Pre-Cruise Concierge service, which helps to coordinate your individual selections on pillow types, coffee and tea preferences, and a variety of special requests.

• All suites (except the SG and SJ suites on Deck 12 of the Star and some suites on the Sun) have a portable phone, which can be used throughout the ship.

• All suites are equipped with the "Bliss Bed" which truly lives up to its name, fitted with upgraded bedding. Also provided with upgraded bathrobes, as well as slippers.

• All suites have an expanded Room Service menu. Essentially, order whatever you want, and if it is available on the ship you will have it.

• Some suites have access to a reserved section of the theater on some ships, based upon stateroom category, as well as other factors, which can vary from sailing to sailing.

And, since you are asking about suite stuff.

Mini-suites are not suites and get NO suite perks. Guests in those rooms, or any other non-suites can not join you for breakfast or lunch at Cagneys.

And, by the way, the Jewel Class ships have a haven area, but do not have a Haven specific restaurant like the newer class ships.
