Tell me about the "Sea Day Brunch"

Guess there's no going back to the old menus, but sure liked them better. RancherosH' was too spicy for me. Mac and cheese just so-so. Breads were bland. We did like the Popovers, but they are only served after about 1100 or noon. Just miss the Mongolian Steak Salad, sushi, German choc cake and steak sandwich on the old menu. :( Soft kitty.. Warm kitty...

We agree. We prefer the breakfast and lunch menu's, too.

Never thought of this until my son asked, and i do not know the answer. My husband and I get the voucher for the free drink in the MDR for being repeat cruisers. My two sons, aged 11 and 16 will be joining us for their 2nd cruise. Will they also get the free drink vouher? Of course I know they can not order alcohol, but last time, I just used mine for a soda.

IF the kids do get one, can they use it for a non alcoholic drink like a virgin margarita or something? or soda?

curious.

Kids will also get a voucher for a free non alcoholic drink e.g. virgin margarita.

I liked it much better and am looking forward to it on our next 9 day cruise with 4 sea days. I ordered grits and they are made with milk instead of water like on the lido deck. The dh ordered steak and eggs, they have these super sweet cereal french toast things that look like a sugar overload but look fun. I loved the heuvos rancheros. The eggs benedict were a little weird because of the stiff hollandaise sauce. Its not fresh and creamy, more like pre packaged stuff they just reheat. The egg was fine but the sauce on top was kind of gross. You can still order fresh fruit and cheese plates. They have a nice bread basket with pastries. We had the pop overs but they were really eggy for me. I don't know if pop overs are supposed to taste like that. I thought the were bread but it tasted like an airy fried egg that looked like bread, so it threw me off a little.

You sit with strangers but can request a private table. I heard plenty of people being led to a table only to get there and loudly state "I don't like sitting with strangers and I want my own table" I think it's a little tacky and should be said when you first come in for brunch, personally.

You can order the hollandaise sauce on the side..

I actually go to the brunch twice........I'm there when the doors open for breakfast....then I go back just before they stop seating for lunch.

My breakfast is usually a combination omelette with hollandaise sauce on the side.

We just got off the Valor a week ago, and loved the seaday brunch. You can have anything and as many items as you want. DW and i both ordered the steak and eggs as our entrees and felt it was by far the best breakfast we had on the ship. We both enjoyed bloody mary's (made to order - you can customize them as you want), and i shared some corned beef hash and eggs benedict with another tablemate. Everything we had was fresh, hot and flavorfull. I thought it was a good change from the typical breakfast or lido experience.

I think I prefer the brunch over the old breakfasts in the MDR. Not so sure how I feel about losing lunch there, but with so many options on Lido for lunch, we'd usually only do this at most one time each cruise. Yes, lunch still exists on port days, but we're usually in port until early afternoon so would miss out on that anyway.

We absolutely loved the brunch! It started out as a comedy brunch linked with the George Lopez comedy club and the menu had dishes that stated were his favorites growing up. The comedy was okay.. they would get up do a quick 2 min routine from time to time throughout the morning. As it turns out folks weren't too keen on the comedy but loved the food.

So now it is Sea Day Brunch - menu has altered a little bit, but the comedy is gone. (and I am not complaining!)

We go without fail to the brunch, use our free drink coupons, and I love the chicken dish. Can't wait to have it again next month!!!

Service has been hit and miss for us... but we still go anyhow.

Definitely go and check it out!

or do they make you sit with someone?

I'll be on Conquest. Are there 2 levels to this brunch?

Do the comedians harass each table?

I would like to enjoy the comedians, but quielty alone, no harassment, if possible.

Which time is the least crowded?

Thanks

They usually make you sit at a large table. You could ask for a table for 2. We've had one when we didn't ask.

I think the brunch is only on the lower level.

There are no comedians anymore.

Least crowded ? Maybe early morning since some passengers sleep in on sea days.

Here's Carnivals link to the brunch menu.

DH and I are looking forward to having the Hey Pork Chop! again on maybe all three of our sea days. When we met the head chef and some officer on the last cruise I told them that it is so good they need to put it also on the dinner menu.

From the menu.

hey pork chop - Fun to say, better to eat. Our flame roasted, double cut thick pork chop is topped with caramelized onions and gorgonzola cream, then served with a side of fries and blistered beans in bbq sauce.

The gorgonzola cream sauce combines with the bbq sauce and it's fabulous.

Fries are not french fries; can't remember what they were like but I ate them too. The orange thing is a carrot piece.

It's not a true double chop to me, but it was nice and thick.

That's why my wife always orders her with 'sauce on the side.' What you described is due to them sitting under the warming lamps.

The brunch is only served on sea days - port days are the normal options.

Thanks for the info about hollandaise sauce on the side. I love eggs benedict, but wasn't crazy about how it was served. This will make all the difference!

The pork chop is delicious as well as the steak and eggs. Get the steak medium and it will be just right. Also love the bread basket. You can use your drink coupon to get a can of beer unopened and drink it later. My DH likes Guiness and we ususally each order one unopened and he enjoys them later. If it is around noon, I will order a fruity drink and head to the casino after.

Think we will do the same ! we have always had breakfast and lunch in MRD on sea days so will just go twice:)

I like the brunch because it allows you to have breakfast a little later in the morning if you want to sleep in on sea days. My favorites are the hevoes rancheros ( I can't spell. This is basically a chicken quesadilla but delicious) and the steak & eggs ( you can't go wrong with filet mignon for breakfast!). At lunch on Sea days. I like the Mongolian wok or the buffet. I don't usually sit in the buffet at lunch. Its too crouded. I like to just take a plate and go to trivia or out on deck.

Fantastic idea as well! I'm doing this next time too. We always spend money on buckets of beer. At least this will save one drink :)

DH and I went to brunch on the Conquest in January. Service was slow, especially since they waited until our table filled up to take the order. DH did say the bacon was the best bacon he's had on a ship. My "funniest" French toast would have been better without the Fruit Loops. Having the cereal encrusting the toast made the cereal soggy!
