Budget Queen and others -- what time should I be up?

Thanks! Went to library and found a better map. I am thinking we should pass Point Adolphus leaving Hubbard Glacier at 6pm on the way to Juneau. Then leave Juneau at 9 pm to Skagway' date=' then Skagway at 8:30pm to Icy Strait. So I will have to see when/if we will pass the junction of Frederick Sound and Stephens Passage (as it looks like we would have to pass by Juneau again and be on the East side of Admiralty Island to get to that spot) and also Snow Pass going to Ketchikan from Icy Strait (leaving at 4pm). Next would be Johnstone Strait leaving Ketchikan at 6 pm heading to Vancouver. I would think guest services or the naturalist could find out when we might be passing these points?[/quote']

From Hubbard, you will be passing during the night, same with snow pass, same with leaving Juneau. You will NOT be backtracking from Skagway back to Juneau, you will be sailing west, via Icy Strait to Hoonah, again, it will be nighttime, during this transit.

It is a TOTAL guess, when you will sail inside Vancouver Island. For me, it has been from afternoon, to later evening, with the ship just entering in the evening, to the ship being all the way back to Vancouver. A wide range. Timing also has to do with the tides and getting through Seymour Narrows. Best advice, IF you see land, then get out on deck, forget about dinner. The most activity I have seen (which is a lot and consistent) has seemed to be in the evening. Of course, I'm again. out with few people but, have had sightings of wildlife every trip.

WOW - just wow! I am going on my 1st cruise/1st Alaska trip on July 5th. I have every intention of spending as much time as possible on deck. My traveling companion keeps saying - we'll do this, that, keep busy....I can keep busy in San Antonio. I can not watch the ocean here!! That is all I really want to do. My "one thing" on the trip is a whale watching excursion from Juneau. I just hope to spend more time watching whales than at the glacier.

Hearing that I have a decent chance of seeing whales/dolphins from the lower deck makes me so very happy!!!

I found a decent pair of binoculars that my ex left behind, so I'm hoping they are the right ones for this kind of trip since I really can't afford anything else if I'm going to pay my bills before/after this cruise!!!

Thank you for sharing all your info! Is there any kind of map or book I should get now - 8 weeks out? or will everything be available on the ship?

Alaska was our first cruise and we are looking forward to our 8th Alaska cruise on July 5th out of Seattle. After the first cruise we were so smitten, we've returned every chance we get! Stay out on deck, keep your binocs around your neck and you will see Alaska's wildlife treasures all along the route. Whale watching with Harv and Marv in Juneau is always a highlight of our trip. July is a good time for seeing bubble net feeding with a little luck! Those who say they never saw whales on their cruise can usually be found in the casino or shops!

Although you don't have an ocean in San Antonio, it's still a great city! I grew up there in the 60s and remember it fondly! Enjoy your first Alaska cruise!

Me too - I bounce over to my friends cubicle at work every day with the countdown. Already planning my trip to Trader Joes in Seattle to get the right wine, have ordered silkies for glacier bay day....and a list of each item to pack and how many variations I can make with 12 clothing items!!!

obsessing...maybe a little!!!
