Cheers decision

I am trying to decide about the cheers program.....since my husband died of a massive heart attack in September :( :( our son is going in his place ... we had 2 cruises booked before he died....our platinum cruise was in November ...and then we had this 8 day cruise next month that he was SO excited about. Our son will be 21 in a couple of days after the cruise has ended .... (and I know this is wrong...and will get MANY ugly comments.....if I did get the cheers program for just me...since it is just the 2 of us ... I could basically split the 15 drinks between the two of us? I know I could come NO WHERE near drinking that many...I have maybe 2 specialty drinks a day ... and my husband and i had Bud Light most of the other time...because that is what we do/did at home ...... but how would I figure out if I would come out ahead doing the Cheers program? How much would it be on an 8 night cruise? With just one person?

Let them talk. You guys go and have fun. Buy the cheers and share it with your son. I'm sure he's never drank before ;) you and your son deserve to have a good time without worry...it's tough what you have been through, and I'm sure it's been tough on your son. Let the morality judgers judge while you're in the sun :)

One thing nobody thinks about with cheers is the fact that you're only paying 15% gratuity on 49.95,not on every drink. So if you drink more then 50$ worth of drinks, there is no gratuity. Loss for the waiters but savings for you! Lets say you drink 100$ worth per day. You save about 7$ per day in tips plus 50$ on the drinks !

I am so sorry about your loss.... If you and your son are sharing a cabin, then both of you will have to sign up for cheers. Everyone over 21 in the cabin has to get it, they don't let just one person sign up. You will be much better off buying drinks as you go, I think cheers will cost you about $800 for an 8 day cruise....

Ahh, okay

Wife and I are getting ready for our 5 day Fantasy cruise, and trying to figure out if the Cheers would be worth it.

(49.95 x 15%) 57.44 (p.p.) x 2 (Wife and I) x 3 (days charged) = 344.64

Am I missing something?

Seems reasonable, but I don't drink 15 mixed drinks or beer a day and my wife would be much much less.

Yeah, you are missing something. You are on a five day cruise, so if you buy it when you board, it's closer to $574.00 for two people. Not sure where you came up with three days charged, even if you sign up on the second day, you are still looking at four days charged...

I'd always do the Cheers from now on.

Drinking only Coors Light 16 oz, ( at 6.61 each) , you only need to do 8.5 beers a day to break even, assuming you drink nothing else.

Didn't do the Cheers in Feb. (my first Carnival cruise) but did it in March....saved a lot doing cheers. Splendor cruise both trips...AND I had drinks on us in the casino.

For the 8 day cruise it's $460 PP....Worth it to me.

I never went over the limit either!

Pam

As others have cautioned you, you have to pay for BOTH people over 21 in your cabin to get CHEERS. From what you said, it doesn't seem like this would be a "good deal" for you. I just want to wish you a BON VOYAGE and offer my sympathy. I think it's wonderful you are still going on this cruise. Look up at the night sky and I bet you will see your DH shining down on you. :)

Have not done Cheers but did the same on RCCL last march their package has no drink limit.

We drink a fair bit on a cruise but I cancelled my packages 5 days into a 14 night cruise. The Beverage manager allowed us to cancel on special request and we only paid for 5 days.

For us the package leaned us toward drinking far more than usual and much stronger drinks than usual.

The first 5 days with the package was a totally different cruise experience to what we were used to.

Its great to try drinks you wouldn't normally buy but you do find yourself chasing the value especially on port days after you get back onboard.

I had lengthy discussions before the cruise involving days x #of drinks per day x end cost value and they all look good written down but in the end it is only worth it to those who drink the value or above each and every day, which is not too many;)

On day 4 of the package we started to feel the full effects of way too much alcohol.

I can easily drink 8 or more beers a day whilst onboard but i was drinking cocktails and Martinis which i am not used too.

We saved quite a bit by cancelling the drinks package and paying as we went.

When calculating how easy it is to get value from cheers by x amount of drinks each day you have to ask yourself do you normally drink x amount of drinks each and every day of the cruise:)

Personally I am glad Carnival has BVY Booze available as 2 bottles in cabin plus bought beer etc. is way more economical than Cheers, plus you can take any left over with you:)

Thank you so much! The really hard cruise was the one this past November...that was suppose to be mine and husband's Platinum cruise...I was so divided on whether to go or not....especially since we had planned it together :( .... and we also had this May cruise booked prior to his death ... my son won't be 21 until after we return to Port Canaveral....that was why I was asking the question about whether it would benefit me :(

We did it on our last cruise and will always do it. We are your general, have a few drinks through the day and then a few with dinner and then many after dinner. So we figured it would be easy to hit the break even point of 6 wine/cocktails or 10 beers. It was. We would have a mimosa for breakfast, hang out by the pool averaging around 5 during the next 7 hour period, have a couple at dinner and then a few more during the festivities of a band/party/club. You get the receipt at the end of your trip that shows how many you consumed and it saved us around $250.

The best part is, you can budget for your drinking, before you ever have your first sip!

If you both are cocktail or wine drinkers and consume more than 6ish each per day then it's a break even situation for you. If you are more beer drinkers then I would say no not worth it.

I agree with you. I just got off the Liberty last week. I had a rum drink from the lido deck bar it was a 10.00 dollar drink and it was weak and I did complain. If you are paying 10.00 dollars for a drink it should give you a kick. If you stick to beer that is a lot of beer to break even on the cheers program but at least you know what your getting.
