FlaCruiser007 Posted May 30, 2014 #76 Share Posted May 30, 2014 I'm sorry but I have to say this. But first great review as well as the others above. Ok, if there are no original members of the band then they aren't THE band but just another band. I would feel cheated and discouraged from booking a cruise for the concert. Just sayin' Fist-pumping gleeful rum runner!!! I understand your sentiment. However, they do still have one of the founders (Mick Jones), who was absent due to health issues. As I opined, the band sounded very good - tight, crisp, good showmanship. We didn't book the cruise for the concert. Rather, it was a very nice icing-on-the-cake event! I have a T-shirt that says "I may be old, but I got to see all the cool bands!" I tease my kids about whether "classic rap" will be on the radio when they're my age. Our generation has a fondness for "our" music. Thats why these bands still draw. Fleetwood Mac is coming to our area again and they are commanding top dollar for seats. Only one original member left. Saw Eric Clapton last year. He played Layla. Pretty sure that wasn't Duane Almond on the slide guitar... Point is, either enjoy it or don't! DW and I enjoyed the show. I can respect anyone else who would not want to attend, much as I respect people who don't want to gamble, or drink, or buy things in the on board shops, etc etc. Its vacation - do what you want. I think the Carnival Live show was easily the best $40 we've ever spent on board (well Ok, the $3 morning tip for room service coffee, juice and croissant is a pretty good value too - but none of them ever sing!). FlaCruiser007 Posted May 30, 2014 #77 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Thought that was a couple of years ago. Saw him on this induction into the songwriters hall of fame and he looked fine. At any rate still an original member and with the band. He was definitely not playing at this show. My understanding is that he does still perform with the band most of the time, but has had some health issues this year keeping him off the road. Foreigner just played with Styx and Don Felder (Uh Oh, hope no one wants to go see the Eagles!) at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. I heard he did not play at that show either. (BTW - tix for that show started at $70 for the cheap seats)

You will not find me debating the value of these shows. It is a great deal and very widely given thumbs up by most that attend as opposed to those who like to throw stones. LOL on the Felder comment:D The show on HBO or Showtime or whatever on the Eagles was OUTSTANDING. I doubt Glenn Fry and Felder exchange birthday cards now.

The funny thing is we got tickets to see them in Aurora, Il here soon. So we get to see them twice.

FlyingCruiserNJ Posted June 3, 2014 #82 Share Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) A couple of notes. The meet and greet time and location was on the ticket. It was about 90 minutes before the show, in a bar on deck 9, and was a typical meet and greet. Carnival took the pictures, and each person was provided a meet and greet photo free of charge. Carnival provided as much free champagne as you wanted. You could stay as long as you wanted. Martina had her own band but used all of Carnival's AV equipment. The sound and lights were nothing like her usual shore based concerts, but they were fine. The sound was good and that is what mattered. The price of $100 for VIP was in line, if not a bit cheaper, than most country music concerts. VIP seats were exceptional and photos were encouraged, in fact VIPs were allowed to stand at the edge of the stage. At the end Martina even signed a few autographs. Other than the show there was almost nothing going on during that time. Dinner was open seating for the entire ship that night. Ok, I just assumed they brought all their own stuff based on how much stuff got offloaded after the concert. I guess it was just the band equipment and personal stuff in all those crates. And about the meet and greet. I clearly said I didn't experience that part and just went off of what others were saying about it. Maybe they were just oblivious and missed out because they didn't read the tickets and plan for themselves. Who knows? Honestly your description sounds more plausible because I doubt she would give fans who paid good money a bad experience. It was still something I wouldn't have paid for but I'm sure others saw it as a value. I am quite aware that dinner was open seating that night and I wasn't happy. I didn't even bother with it because I didn't want to feel rushed to finish dinner sitting with a new bunch of complete strangers so I didn't miss the concert. It was a mistake also as the lido dinner buffet left an awful lot to be desired and I actually left dinner feeling unsatisfied. Also, people were free to go check out cozumel the entire time we were parked and based on my numerous observations of the dock area, plenty of people did get on and off even after sunset. There is always SOMETHING to do, even if it isn't a show or a casino or such. The concert overall experience was still an enjoyable one for me at least. CruizinMama1026 Posted September 7, 2014 #85 Share Posted September 7, 2014 We have a cruise scheduled that features Leanne Rhimes. I must confess, I'm more hoping to bump into her husband. :o My husband and I are also going on this cruise! Did you get VIP or regular ticket? lazyart Posted September 7, 2014 #86 Share Posted September 7, 2014 We're going to see Styx next month via the Breeze. We usually see them twice a year when they blow through Florida. Two of the five members from their heyday are still there. Drummer passed away in '96. His brother (and bassist) occasionally shows up since he lives in Florida, but he's mostly retired from the band. Dennis DeYoung (keyboard & vocals) was fired 15 years ago. Styx is my and DW's favorite band, and the ship embarks on her 50th birthday. It's a convenient fit for a surprise cruise. Yep, 80's teenagers is what we are. $20 for tix is a heckuva deal. ccruisequeen Posted September 19, 2014 #90 Share Posted September 19, 2014 SAW THE BAND ON TUESDAY. They moved Elegant night to Weds, so I didn't miss my Creme Brulee and Lobster. While we waited to board, one of the entertainment staff gave out t-shirts and tickets for trivia answers and air guitar performances. Inside, they gave white ones away if you said you were going to the show. They are not ship/show specific They sold them in grey for $10 in the gift shops. The tickets were distributed the night before, and the time and place (in our case, the Rock and Roll Lounge at 8:15) were printed on the ticket. They had two lines inside to pick up our lanyards, then we lined up around the dance floor to wait for the band. Jeff told us to count down from 20, then the band came out. I had a walker, so they let me go first. Two photos were taken, no autographs. We didnt even get get our autographed photo of the band. Once we had our photos taken, we were told to go to our seats. The first three rows were blocked off and they had to see our lanyard to get in. They did a great job sang almost all their hits. The man replacing Dennis DeYoung did a melody of songs by other artists, including Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Queen Come Sail Away was the Encore. Tommy was so sweet. He threw pics into the audience, or would hand you one if you were patient and waited. James alswo threw pics out, and the drummer threw drumsticks at the end After the concert, the band exited through the Empress deck to the midship elevators and were taken away by helicopter. James alswo threw pics out, and the drummer threw drumsticks at the end . Kinda odd that they would throw pics to the audience. Were they of themselves or the whole band? Were they 8x10 or smaller? guess throwing pictures isn't as weird as Stryper throwing bibles to the audience.
