AlohaPride Posted April 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) Here is our itinerary: Here is our Itinerary: Seattle, WA Vancouver Island Cruising Ketchikan Tracy Arm Juneau Icy Strait (Tender) At Sea! Anchorage Homer Kodiak Hubbard Glacier Sitka (tender) At Sea! Victoria, BC Seattle, WA We are FOR SURE going hiking in Mendenhall Glacier Park and will walk into Hoonah in Icy Strait. Are there any other kid friendly hikes we should look into with this itinerary? Our girls love nature. Edited April 12, 2014 by AlohaPride
Northern Aurora Posted April 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2014 The easy walk in to Hoonah is along the coast, and we've seen a number of eagles in the trees along the road. But at the Icy Strait cannery site there is also a nice walk through the woods and along the edge of the ocean. In Kodiak there are some great trails at Ft. Abercrombie State Park located just outside of Kodiak. In Homer we often just walk along the "spit" looking for interesting shells. If you take the Mt. Roberts tram in Juneau, there are also some trails at the top.

Northern Aurora Posted April 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2014 Since the "edit" function has expired (i.e., more than 15 minutes), I can't include this information in my first post. Sitka National Historical Park (often referred to as "Totem Pole Park") also has some lovely trails among the historic totems. The park visitor center generally has maps. This park is also easy to access from the Sitka Raptor Center, although the park visitor center is on a farther side of the grounds.
epixx Posted April 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2014 The Ward Lake loop trail in Ketchikan is REALLY kid friendly. We found a rope swing that allowed our kids to swing out over the lake a bit.
Rare karatemom2 Posted April 13, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) The hike to Nugget Falls at Mendenhall in Juneau is very beautiful and family friendly. Our kids had no problem with it at all. I would also second the Ward Lake suggestion for Ketchikan. In Homer you can walk along the spit and down to the beach for a beach stroll. And in Anchorage the Tony Knowles trail is excellent. We saw Moose! Edited April 13, 2014 by karatemom2
