As it's shaping up, the general plan is

 

About 1 week Cairns/Port Douglas, GBR (early November)

Nov 12: 13 night Sun Princess, Sydney-NZ

2 weeks dedicated to Sydney, KI, Adelaide, Great Ocean Road, Melbourne

1 week Tasmania (Princess, Dec 9 out of Sydney or DIY land... not sure now!)

 

Thanks everyone for your help!

 

Sounds great as is but I would opt for the cruise around Tassie and save yourself some driving.:D

Hi I live near Burnie ,you have lots of options close to town or alternatively rent a car ( the traffic is very light ) and explore places like Stanley ,Boat Harbour or even Cradle Mountain .

In relation to Port Arthur I suspect your tour is good value as it is a fair drive from Hobart if however you only have one day I would stay in the greater Hobart area ,the womens convict factory and a large number of colonial buildings are very close to the CBD
