Wattle Posted April 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2014 I would love some information about the following pots - 4 Lifou, New Caledonia, 5 Luganville, Vanuatu, 7 Port Denarau, Fiji and 8 Suva, Fiji 7. Can you walk from the port into town? Or do you have to hire a taxi, is the good snorkeling near the port or do you have to go on a tour or hire a taxi? What's the best thing you have done in any of these ports? Thanks
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted April 26, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Lifou - a great spot to snorkel is at Jinek Bay which a 10min walk from the jetty. Walk up the hill from the jetty, past the small markets, though a sandy "parking lot". When you reach the tarred road, go left and follow it along, until you see the signs for Jinek Bay. You need to pay $15AUDpp to the local before you enter the water but it is worth it as there is lots of coral and fish. Take you snorkel gear with you as you cannot hire any. If you decide to swim at the beachfront (next to the jetty where you get off the tender), you will need wear reef shoes in the water as the sand is broken coral and rough on your feet. Sometimes you will see turtles here while swimming. We saw one in the water while waiting on the wharf to reboard the tender. Noumea (New Calendonia) There are a couple of snorkelling spots at Noumea. However, we chose to do a full day ship tour to Amedee Lighthouse Island which is 45min high speed ferry ride from Noumea. Its a pricey tour but well worth it as Amedee is picture perfect beautiful with lovely snorkelling, a delicious lunch included, glass bottom boat and reef tour and you can climb the lighthouse for stunning 360 views of the island. Havent been to the other ports yet. Edited April 26, 2014 by aussielozzie18
