  1. After a week of warmer temperatures and with all the wattles blooming in Sydney it almost felt like spring this week but it’s back to winter this weekend and for the next week with snow possible a couple of hours from Sydney. Took a photo of this cute ball of fluff (kookaburra)
  2. I loved the original Twister. Twisters was only on the cinemas here for 2 weeks then it went straight to the streaming platform that we don’t have. Enjoy the drive-in - gosh that’s a throwback. Happy Birthday 18th Birthday to your grandson 🎉🎂.
  3. I so wanted to watch this live but live here was 3am and that wasn’t going to happen Hoping I can find a full replay. Interesting that the surfing events are being held in Tahiti and due to there being no hotel at the small village at the surfing location, competitors and officials will be accommodated on board the cargo/cruise ship Arunai 5. This ship offers cruises to the remote islands of Tahiti and I am keen to experience this cruise with my daughter in the future.
  4. Final Jasper update - Due to tremendous work of those on the ground overnight, the main structures in Jasper were saved including the hospital, both schools and treatment plants. Also, very relieved that although the beautiful historic Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge did incur fire damage, most of the structures including the main lodge survived. My son is currently spending today & the weekend with his sister. Thoughts go out to those in Jasper who lost their homes & businesses & thankful to the authorities for evacuating everyone safely well in advance including backcountry hikers
  5. This is my 2nd last post about this because it will be all over the news shortly. The Jasper fire has reached the township. Absolutely devastating. My thoughts are with the firies & the all the responders in Jasper & throughout Canada and the US (and the international crews including from Australia that have joined them) working tirelessly right now. Hope they stay safe.
  6. @Luckynana My son drove from Valemount early yesterday morning to Whistler. He arrived exhausted but his employer has put him up in deluxe accommodation (with valet parking) for the rest of the week. The update today from Jasper NP is not good. Assuming he is not able to return to Jasper, he will travel down to Waterton where he worked last summer. Yes, my daughter is in B.C. They are seeing each today. Although, my son slept in his car, I want to say how wonderful the small community of Valemount is - dealing with a sudden influx of thousands of evacuees from Jasper in the middle of night and co-ordinating somewhere for them to sleep (many in local homes) and providing free meals the next day.
  7. This brought tears. I love that you and your step-daughter have each other and she openly expresses how much you mean to her.
  8. My son is having an eventful evening. His summer job is in Jasper. At 10.30pm his time, an evacuation order went out for the town and Jasper NP due to wildfires. Fortunately, he is smart enough to always have a full tank of petrol in his car. He loaded up the car and with only one road open has driven west and is safely across the border into B.C to the closest town. With poor phone reception and everything being a bit chaotic, he has just decided to sleep in his car until the morning, when he will update us further.
  9. Beautiful photo. Lucky they are in Sydney today and not yesterday. Strong, icy breeze here yesterday. Envy those on board cruising to Singapore or on the return trip later.
  10. We went to see Le Aerial at the Sydney Opera House last night. It’s mid winter here and we had gutsy winds all day, so there were white caps on Sydney Harbour and all the outdoor eateries along the harbourfront walk from Circular Quay to the Opera House were closed, simply too cold to sit outside in that wind plus everything would have blown off of the tables. The Aerial Show was different. They had an Opera Singer and a Theatre performer singing as the talented aerial artists performed above them. Interestingly, from our seats, we could see the human counterweight in black in the shadows moving up and down the rigging, as required. I had a quiet chuckle though because at one point one of the female aerialists performed in an exact replica of the red hammocks from the Virgin Voyages’ balcony cabins!
  11. Congratulations to Jack! How exciting that it is to be shown at a theatre on 42nd Street too. Will you be walking the red carpet with your grandson?
  12. I made the mistake of booking a window seat on my 14hr flight Syd - Vancouver. The two people in the seats next to me slept VERY well. Let me tell you that it made needing a toilet break very difficult. And because I don’t sleep on planes - I caught up on ALL the movies I hadn’t seen in the 28hrs total of flying time.
  13. One of my “kids” sent me this photo from their roadtrip in BC this week. I replied “will you have time to walk the suspension bridge?” The reply “omg, they are powerlines!” Ooops! I think I need to start looking at photos on the laptop rather than my little phone screen… Btw, Love the name of these, the Brandywine Falls.
  14. It’s cold & windy here in Sydney today. We are off to see “Le Aerial” at the Sydney Opera House tonight. No photos permitted. Last time I saw an aerial show was on the Rhapsody, over 10 years ago. Do any Royal ships do aerial shows these days?
