Was that train fare from Denver to Galveston or Miami?

We took the train from North Carolina just a few years back and it was $50each adult and $25 each kid I believe! I know I didn't book it wayyyy out because my husband is military and we just can't book trips that far out. So keep checking those train fares (like someone else mentioned-they fluctuate like plane prices). I hope he would consider therapy (for various reasons), because I used to be TERRIFIED of flying, but had to get over it real quick when we got stationed in Germany. Now I much would rather fly. My husband mas a mild form of PTSD from the wars, but has it nonetheless and has to fly quite often.

Anyways, keep checking those prices. Whatever you do, if you travel by train especially, do NOT book it for arriving day of sailing. I recommend staying night before anyways unless close to the port, but Amtrak is notorious for being late!

Hope everything works out! :D

Train from Denver to Miami would take several days. There is no direct route. OP would have to go to Chicago, change to go to Washington DC, then take one of the Silvers to Miami. Might be an adventure for one, but not with a grumpy husband. At least three nights without a bed, or a shower...EM

Miami. I've already booked flights for my friend and I, but did a mock booking on Amtrak and it's $1500+ and takes 3 days to get there. My husband already isn't going. This post was mainly about appropriate documents. But thank you :)

Thanks. He's pretty upset that I didn't cancel it and plan something else for us to do together, so I don't see him supporting me going without him again. I told him we could drive to Galveston....it's only a little over 1000 miles! :)

Just a thought here... why don't you show him the ship, pictures and deck plans. Then, show him the ports, excursions and such. Show him the bars, casino, clubs etc. You might just get him to change his mind. If you are sailing on Magic she is awesome. She has a pub too that is really nice.

Second thought. I don't care what nobody says about travel documents. Fork over the $110 and get a passport. I've said it many times before. I would never set foot in a foreign country without one - for all the reasons I can think of, but mostly for the reasons I can't.

A Passport is never a "bad" thing to have.

If you break the cost down it comes to roughly $10/year. Sure you have the up front cost, but in the grand scheme of things, it's honestly VERY inexpensive. Think about it, if you drink Starbucks coffee...do the math!

No offense to husband, but the fact he got upset because you didn't cancel is exceptionally selfish on his part.

You mentioned the port of Galveston only being 1000 miles, that's roughly a 14 hour drive, easily done by two people.

He has the option to join you on cruises from there, it just sounds like he refuses to compromise.

Bottom line, get your passport and go on cruises with him, or without him.

OP stated that hubby "refuses to fly", that he was "pretty upset" that she didn't cancel her cruise, and that he likely wouldn't support her going on a cruise again.

Think what you want, but I can respond only to what's written. I'm not going to ponder every permutation or asterisk and parenthesize every possible interpretation of a situation. I'll call it at face value. Maybe the shoe fits, maybe it doesn't, we're all adults here and can figure out if something applies or not.

1) I agree with you and almost posted the same thing (man up).

2) travel while you have a chance while your young and healthy. My parents didn't do this when they could, and now they can't

3) People need to realize that it is safer to fly than drive if you think about the chances of dying in a plane crash vs in a vehicle crash (stats don't lie)

Two very traumatic events in your husband's life that seam to cause some phobias. I am sorry that he had to go through them. But he was not born with the phobias they were acquired. If he not already, he should seek professional help to deal with them. Living one's life in fear is not something that should be continued.
