A day in Rio

Hi all, we have two half days in Rio after our Azamara cruise.

Should we pre book tours or will there be easily hireable guides at the port. Many thanks.

Good guides are often booked well in advance.

Legitimate guides in Rio do not hang around the cruise pier drumming up business.

However, the main sights are easy enough to get to on your own, by taxi.

I would book private guides ahead of time.

 

While you can see things on your own I truly believe that if this is your first time there you should go with private guides to maximize what you see and so you can do it efficiently.

we used http://www.rdj4u.com/ and you can book what you like and they pick up most hotels etc. floudn them reasonable.

If you are determined to do a tour, it would behoove you to get a private guide, and not waste time.with the multiple pickup/drop off stops of a group tour.

I don't understand what is meant by "a dance". And why you assume it might or might not be advisable.

We dance and we'd love to see how Latin dancing is done properly and maybe even have a go.

Depending on the evening (some are more popular than others), I would suggest a visit to the well-known Carioca da Gema club in Lapa to hear live samba music and try your skills at dancing samba gafieira (partnered) with the locals. It is one of my and my husband's favorite things to do in Rio. You will get a "check" on entry and any food or drink will be recorded, to be paid at the cashier before exiting. Take a taxi directly there, to the door, and there will be taxis waiting right outside when you are ready to leave. Have fun.
