cannockfrodo Posted April 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Hi all, we have two half days in Rio after our Azamara cruise. Should we pre book tours or will there be easily hireable guides at the port. Many thanks.
VidaNaPraia Posted May 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Pre-book. Good guides are often booked well in advance. Legitimate guides in Rio do not hang around the cruise pier drumming up business. However, the main sights are easy enough to get to on your own, by taxi. Rare Keith1010 Posted May 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2014 I would book private guides ahead of time. While you can see things on your own I truly believe that if this is your first time there you should go with private guides to maximize what you see and so you can do it efficiently. VidaNaPraia Posted May 5, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2014 If you are determined to do a tour, it would behoove you to get a private guide, and not waste time.with the multiple pickup/drop off stops of a group tour.
cannockfrodo Posted May 6, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted May 6, 2014 We'd also love to visit a dance on the night. Is this advisable for us ?
VidaNaPraia Posted May 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 7, 2014 We'd also love to visit a dance on the night. Is this advisable for us ? I don't understand what is meant by "a dance". And why you assume it might or might not be advisable.
cannockfrodo Posted May 7, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted May 7, 2014 We dance and we'd love to see how Latin dancing is done properly and maybe even have a go. Wondering if it would be safe for an unaccompanied tourist to try and find somewhere that we could do this.

Depending on the evening (some are more popular than others), I would suggest a visit to the well-known Carioca da Gema club in Lapa to hear live samba music and try your skills at dancing samba gafieira (partnered) with the locals. It is one of my and my husband's favorite things to do in Rio. You will get a "check" on entry and any food or drink will be recorded, to be paid at the cashier before exiting. Take a taxi directly there, to the door, and there will be taxis waiting right outside when you are ready to leave. Have fun.
