Thinking of booking last minute Paradise cruise - concerned about smoking

I've been reading some reviews re: the Paradise and although it is an inexpensive trip, I have some concerns.

How bad is the smoke odor? Can this be avoided at some shows, etc?

I've read so many negative things about the shows that I'm a bit afraid to book this cruise for lack of things to do.

Opinions appreciated

Thanks

Barbara

There is no smoking at the shows, but Carnival has one of the most liberal smoking policies of the mass-market lines. if you don't like being around it, there are better choices.

I did Paradise in January and thought the shows were outstanding. I too despise

smoke and don't recall it ever being an issue. (However I do avoid the casino for just that reason on all ships.)

I would avoid the casino if you couldn't smoke. And I would be very upset if they didn't allow smoking.

I just got off the Paradise. The only smoke I encountered was in the casino. It wasn't that bad to me and I HATE smoke. There's no smoking in the shows but it is allowed on the balconies. Our neighbor smoked and it didn't bother me. I think we were only both on our balconies at the same time once.

I just posted my review of the Paradise if you'd like to read!

  • 2 weeks later...

Casino plain stinks of smoke. And the bar immediately outside the casino, too. Other than that and one side of the Lido, there is no smoking in the public areas.

I always budget $20 a day to play the slot machines....I played one evening and could not go back. The air system just doesn't work as well on the Paradise as on the other ships I've sailed.

Other than that, loved the Paradise!

Whatever gave you the idea there was smoking at the shows? All you need to do is not walk on the smoking side of Lido by the pool (an exterior area), and the casino;) So, it's very simple.

Just off "Paradise", and I concur with those above, that the only place where smoking was the least bit offensive was at, or near the casino. As far as the shows themselves, they are OUTSTANDING! No 2.0, cheap shows aboard "Paradise". They have 8 female dancers, 6 male dancers, two FANTASTIC production singers, and a band consisting of 8 musicians. They present two excellent BIG production shows, 8 More Seconds, and Shout. All that, and no smoking anywhere near the theater! :D You're gonna have a GREAT time aboard "Paradise".

The casino does seem to be the highest concentration of smoke. However if you look closely at the hull you can see the no smoking symbol that is painted over in white as the Paradise used to be Carnival's non smoking ship.

Book it! We've sailed her several times, as recently as Feb, and think the crew is one of the most attentive.

As others said, the only smoke concerns are near the casino and casino bar. Ironic that she was originally built as a non-smoking ship!

Also, we think the production shows are excellent as well!

Have fun!

There's no smoking in the shows, so that shouldn't be a problem. Smoking is allowed on cabin balconies, in the casino, and at the bar by the casino. Additionally, there are outdoor areas with designated smoking.

Because Carnival has one of the most liberal smoking policies among the major cruise lines, Carnival may not be your best choice if smoke bothers you. In my experience with over 20 Carnival cruises under my belt, it is rare indeed for Carnival crew to enforce the smoking regulations that they do have. People smoke at the non-smoking slot machines in the casino, in non-smoking public areas, etc., and no one says anything to the violators.

Carnival is synonymous with smoking.

Yeah, be sure to wear a gas mask and expect the ship to be yellow from all the smoke residue. Oh wait, that's what some people expect you to think.

Seriously, as some of posters mentioned, the smoking areas inside the ship (casino and casino bar area) get used regularly, but the smoke isn't ridiculous.

Most smokers observe the smoking areas. I've found it's quite rare to see people smoking in no smoking areas.

Don't let the smoke situation concern you. It's nothing out of the ordinary.

Liberal smoking policies:eek: What's liberal except being able to smoke on a balcony? NCL and Holland are included.

It's seriously not that smoky. The casino, yes at times. My balcony neighbors smoked and the bulk of it dissipated by the time it got to me so it didn't really bother me. I didn't encounter it anywhere else.

And I HATE smoke. No where you go is going to be 150% what you want. But don't let the smoke get in the way. It's seriously not even bad.
