Pre Cruise Hotel Ft. Lauderdale

We just stayed at the Hyatt Place 17th Street and thought it was just fine. It's just across and down from the embassy suites. Same access to area shopping and dining.

The complimentary airport pickup was quick and courteous. Hotel staff very friendly, and the property is well maintained. Room was very clean.

They offer a transfer to the port for a fee, but we just ended up taking a cab.

During our last two pre-cruise stays in Ft. Lauderdale (in November and again in late December, 2013), we stayed at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Hotel.

You can see the ships in port from this hotel. It has a good bar and an okay restaurant.

Best of all, in the strip malls nearby you can find all of your last minute-pre-cruise-needs within walking distance: a Walgreen's across the street, several blow dry bars and nail salons, a Crown Wine & Spirits to stock up on wine, a post office, an office supply store and a number of good restaurants from casual to higher end.

We got a $139 rate there - but that was on a Weds. night for a Thursday departure (the rate was higher on Saturday night stay but still reasonable).

While staying there, with help from Yelp, we also discovered a very local seafood place within walking distance - the Southport Raw Bar. Great happy hour, very casual and reasonably-priced fresh seafood, oysters on the half-shell, fish tacos, and fried seafood baskets. Photos here although the food tastes a lot better than it looks: http://www.travelingwiththejones.com/2014/01/02/eating-local-at-the-southport-raw-bar-in-fort-lauderdale-florida/

Hyatt Pier 66 - tower rooms. Spectacular views of the intracoastal waterway, yachts in the marina, or the cruise ships in port. Excellent service, attractive rooms, and large resort-type pool area with accompanying bar/restaurant. Also have a variety of dining options onsite.

Not as crowded as other cruise port hotels.

They offer a cruise package that includes continental breakfast, welcome drink and transfer to the pier.
